Cassette upgrade?
I recently purchased my first bike with a decent setup. The bike came with an Ultegra gruppo (F/R der, brakes, levers) except for the cassette which was a 105 10sp. I know these type of questions have been asked and answered to death, but I'd like to hear from any one that's had similar issues, if they have made the change and saw improvements. More specifically, how crucial of a role does a cassette play in a smooth shift?
I'm assuming it'll be about a $20-$40 upgrade as I can probably re-sell my slightly used 105 cassette for a decent price.
Appreciate any thoughts.

you will see zero improvement with that up grade IMO. Wait till you need a new cassette.

The cassette won't make a bit of difference, besides shaving a couple grams off. A lot of people on this forum (myself included) run full dura ace with an ultegra cassette (or lower) because the tradeoff of durability (lower for DA) to durability (higher with 105 or Ultegra) just isn't worth the trouble.
Wear the cassette you have out, and then swap. Its not worth it before.

You'll have a difficult time selling a "used" 105 cassette. Just ride it till it wears out and move up to Ultegra. Shifting performance across the 105-Ultegra-Dura-Ace line of cassettes is the same, the weight just comes down.

The performance difference between 105 and Ultegra cassettes is minuscule. Buy a new one if the old one wears out or if you need a different size.

I recently upgraded from an Ultegra to DA cassette, and other than a rise in cool factor, I have noticed no difference.

Ride your bike for awhile and figure out what type go gearing you need and if you need to change, that can be your excuse to upgrade. Other than that, no point.

I rock SRAM Force and Dura Ace on all my bikes....
I can never say "full" force or DA cuz I always rock a 105 10 speed cassette....saves big bucks and shifts just as good as anything else...
The 105 also has a 11-25 spread too, which is cool...

Are you sure that it is a 105 cassette? Is that because it says 105 on the rings? It doesn't, it says 10S for 10 speed.

At least one pro team is running 105 cassettes to help bring their bikes to the UCI weight limit.

I asked by LBS that very question and he was extremely confident that the cassette would make next to no noticeable difference in shifting performance. Save your money
