Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"You can fix this right?"

"Sure, Ebay has lots of frames."

Looks like the seat tube has a slight curve to it also.

My wife did that once. A brand new custom Serotta. Thankfully the rack ended up sliding instead and she was moving really slowly. No damage to the bike. The seat left a mark on the paint above the garage door.

I've done it myself - twice. Both times I destroyed the saddle and damaged the garage door. Nothing like this though.

I gotta hand it to her though. She felt real bad...she really loved this bike and I loved building it for her. The good news is she's already got a second bike. So while I build her a new one - a spine series Lemond Zurich - she's still out on the road kicking arse.

bring it to a welder have them cut the top tube and down tube, remount the downtube shifter bosses, re-weld the head tube, and call it a custom frame for someone with REALLY long legs and a short torso.

A friend drove under a subterainian garage at the Solvang Century with his 50th anniversary Paramount on the roof rack. He had it painted by Cyclart and it was looking better than new before that day. They saved the frame and Waterford made him a new fork.

Hey, WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!..................

Rad, you did this to your bike a couple years ago. There's something very kharmic about all this.

Looks like you two are made for each other. It's DESTINY.

Sad thing is even with that new geometry, someone would still tell you to "flip it".

I feel your pain, something similar happened to me awhile ago, but nothing nearly to this extent.

Have you seen the flag with a pic of a bike that you hang on the inside of your garage door, so it drops down when you open the door?

Yes, but I only busted up the saddle. Frame was fine.

About 10 years ago, I was taking a friend to Logan Airport with my wife's Gary Fisher MTB on top of our '91 Civic. When we approached the outside of Terminal B, I saw the bar hanging down with the words >Clearance 7' 10"< on it.

If I was the one who hung a clearance bar like that, I'd have made sure it was exactly 7 feet, 10 inches from the ground. And of course I made the assumption that it was as we slowly went under it while looking out the window up at the saddle passing beneath the bar by about 2 or 3 inches.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I drove on into the terminal when (you guessed it) WHAM! The saddle of my wife's bike connected with a concrete bulkhead that hung down from the ceiling at the deepest point of the terminal. My friend, late for his plane jumped out of the car as I quickly collected the carnage that ended up in a pile on the trunk of the car.

Lucky for me, I only bent the seat tube on the bike and one of the Thule Peleton racks.

been there done that too. wasn't my bike, but the current women's 24 hr mtb champions road rig, a specialized barely a day old. frame survived, fork snapped.
did it at the ToC pulling out of the motel. the clerk just looked at the window and hollered "happens all the time.."
it's worse doing it to someone elses bike than your own. since then roof racks are off the list.

Good thing it wasn't carbon or it would have blown the house up.

I'm sorry Lord, I couldn't resist, that was just wrong of me, I was just kiddin' around.

My mom trashed 1 frame and 2 forks that way in two separate incidents, and my dad ripped a seat off going under a hotel awning. After that, we made a sign to hang on the garage door to keep any of us from doing it again. I think they only reason I never did it was because I didn't get a garage space.

Talking to people with roof racks, it seems like about 1/3 of them have done this.

Please, please, please, get a hitch mount rack, people.

Yeah, but the ones with a roof rack are making a fashion statment.

The rack you linked is really good. Sold a bunch of them. For the "SUV" type vehicle w/o a hitch rack.
