34 miles today. A cloudy and cool day but the warmer temps will be back tomorrow and for the next week.

Newbie
I find cycling a unique sport. All of us started with small miles, like you, and slowly kept pushing out the distance. After awhile I found doing new distances something to strive for. So four became 6 and 6 became 10 and so on. Having a destination is always a great idea. A favorite park, view, ice cream, friend’s house…. Always good to reward yourself until cycling becomes its own reward through fitness and weight loss for the determined of us. Now it gets weird. Cycling can be painful and punishing when taken to extremes or when one wants to really push the distance and speed. People actually look for hills to climb so they can get stronger and ride in all sorts of terrible weather, but those are the more extreme types (self included). You don’t need to go there. Just enjoy the freedom and the feeling of getting more fit and healthy. Throw in an ice cream or a beer as a reward and you should be golden.

40 miles in the muck. A lot of trees were overlaying the route.

Repeated Weds' ride but since I was with a friend who does not standby, pedal by or sit for photos - none but they would have been similar anyway. But Sea Fair had officially started and there were tourists on that gun boat and two cruise ships were back in port that were absent on Weds. So, again about 22 miles with 800 feet. Oh, yeah, a few more crazy drivers than on Weds. One, a nice white Tesla decided to turn into a driveway right in front of me, across a marked bike path where his alert systems failed to tell him about my position or he chose to ignore those alerts. And if that was not enough, he than started to back out to finish his u-turn as I was screaming HEADS UP, HEADS UP, A-HOLE and swerved around him!
And our heat wave is back with warnings for the next two days. Getting old but unfortunately getting usual.

Lost it by a bear’s nose
46 with 1200’ 17 Ave
Doing a 15 mile TT with 100 yards of all out sprint to get PR, a black bear crosses 25 yards in front of me. Had to slow to a crawl. Missed the PR by 3 secs.

Actually, kidding, I just have been too lazy to put the bike on a rack and drive out your way.

That why I only pedal in the urban areas around Seattle. No bears (like the attack at Lake Whatcom the other day on a jogger: https://www.cascadiadaily.com/news/2...njures-jogger/ ) but we do have bunny rabbits and coyotes and in the past two separate cougar events at good ol' Discovery Park where I both walked and biked yesterday and walked again this morning.

Where I live we had a black bear mom and her cubs cross the front lawn and my wife spotted a cougar about 100 yards from our property. Bobcats and deer run and we only hear coyotes at night. Bunny rabbits are high on the local wildlife menu.
Used to live in Lake City and was amazed to see beaver cutting down trees building a lodge about 1/2 mile inland from Lk Wa.in a storm water retention pond with an outflow to the lake.

Did 30 miles this morning, and it was an adventure that was best posted in A&S.

Heard about the bears in North Bend. They were all put down. Would rather that they had been relocated far away but that's probably expensive. Have had bears in my place in Redmond the last couple of years but none this year. Only a couple of bobcats and one cougar.

There are plenty in my area/neighborhood as well. We find bear scat on our driveway every once in a while.
