While Hamiltons were not the most expensive watches but in my eyes, they were always ahead of their "TIME" (pun intended) ....especially during the 50's and 60's, the asymmetrical are my favorites.
Here a few of my watches.
I also like the jump timer "Golf Ball" by Elgin. It's funny how many of us enjoy collecting similar things....cameras, hi-fi's, sewing machines, and so on, however, my favorite is the fountain pen.

This one was my first vintage wrist watch. I sold it a while back, because getting a Hamilton Electric serviced is not cheap, nor is it something I can do myself.

This is my dad’s watch. He was on the USS Yorktown at the Battle of Midway. His bomber squadron flew an earlier mission and he was aboard ship when it was attacked. I wish I knew more details but IIRC, air crew were dealing with explosions and fires on the hangar deck after the first attack wave when he broke his watch. The hands haven’t moved since then. It’s about the only possession he had when rescued by a destroyer after the order came to abandon ship. He saw more history in his early 20s than I’ll ever see but I was lucky enough to attend one his bomber squadron reunions and meet some of his shipmates before he passed away.
From what I can gather, I believe this torpedo hit happened about 10 or 15 minutes after he broke his watch.

Tressa Lux from 1976. Dial ("face" to non watch people) is done in Chromovelato just like the Italian bikes of that era. Had to get it!

I've got a nice waltham from the late 1920s, belonged to my great grandfather. If I could get it cleaned and tuned it should work fine, but I've been too paranoid to drop it off anywhere and get it fixed.

Ah, but if it weren't for battery powered mechanicals, there wouldn't have been batteries small enough to fit in a watch to run a quartz movement.

I have more watches than I do bikes. But the coolest timekeeping piece that I have is the JLC Atmos. The clock never needs winding; it has a capsule that is filled with a special gas and temperature variations cause the capsule to expand and contract. The capsule is connected to a chain which goes to the mainspring and the expansion/contraction winds the movement. A single degree of temperature variation is enough to wind the clock for approximately two days.
This one is a 'baby Atmos' (model 526-5) and was made in the 1950s.

I never got into watches. My dad was born in 1900 and when he was young in England the tradition was to give a man a watch chain on his twenty first birthday. I have his and his fathers . My grandfather was a jeweler in Birmingham England. I think the gold in the chains is worth more than the chains themselves but they are really quite nice and both handmade. Years ago I got into British die cast cars like Dinky and Corgi and ended up filling up a few display cabinets with them . They take way less room than bikes but aren’t near as fun. I must have two to three hundred toy cars from the fifties and sixties some still in their boxes. I hope my bicycle obsession doesn’t take me down THAT road! “Honey , I need a bigger shop!”

I liked the idea of a watch. Gave it a try for a year or so. I decided I prefer the accuracy of my phone and a nekkid wrist.

While I love watches for the history and mechanical aspects, I stopped wearing a watch many years ago (inspired in part by Easy Rider). They are still fascinating pieces of human engineering and I love to see them.
