First Ever Century Ride - @ 53 Years Old
Today I did my first 100 mile ride...in my third year of riding real road bikes.
Weather was perfect. Completed in a little over 6 hours...I have come a long way from where I was a few years ago, when such a feat would have been unthinkable.
I felt pretty good most of the day except that with about 15 miles to go my feet started hurting...which is never a problem for me on my typical 50 mile rides.

Did you stay with a group or solo? A group will bust up the air for you and you'll do that 100 miles with much less effort than solo. Unless you stay on the front all the time.
If you did most of this solo, then I'm really impressed. My time for a solo 100 will have been considerably longer.
And before the conversation gets there, by group I just mean a group of riders scattered about with loose spacing between them. I'm not suggesting the OP get in a Paceline which is entirely different.

Sounds fun than my first one. I did my first century at 13 on my shiny new Schwinn Le Tour. Much of my food on that ride was Easter candy, which is probably why I threw up not long after returning home. I don’t have any centuries on my calendar as of the moment, with the possible exception of a metric century or two. I plan to ride down to Atami to spend a weekend at the Hiramatsu hotel and hot springs resort. It’s a beautiful place, but the dinner is what I am most looking forward to. I hope they won’t be put off when I arrive by bicycle after a 7 hour ride.

I live in the far north-west part of the state. I bike through beautiful farmland and woods on mostly good quality county roads...not what most people picture about Jersey.
The topography is constant rolling hills. Over my 100 miles I climbed a little under 5000 feet.

Congrats! I haven't done a century in a few years now (I'm 67) but I remember that after 80 miles or so, it was ALWAYS a bit of a death march. Expect the next one to be better, though!

With sore feet I would look at how stiff the soles of your shoes are and consider getting stiffer ones (and or going to 3-pin shoes and the Shimano SP-SL pedals that provide a large base to support the sole of the shoe. Many bike shoes can be used with either 2-pin or 3-pin cleats.
If you live near an REI store you can compare your shoes to others that they sell and evaluate the stiffness of the sole.
