Shame American Classic wheels have been discontinued, those seemed to have fairly pleasant ticking noise.
you may need to expand the search of a better lbs.

Seems like Mavic Aksium wheels doesn't have harsh sounding freehub while having sensible price. Not sure if they are strong enough for commuting since they have only 20 spokes.

If Krytox GPL206 NLGI#0 grease won't keep the freehub quiet on 40-80 mile ride then I will have no other choice but to keep dripping some oil past the seal during the ride, since 250 or 400 mili litre spray grease will be too big to carry and people say it becomes quite thin once solvent dries out.

auto trans assembly lube is thick & breaks down into a liquid over time with heat. Lack of heat it just stays as a thick oil, but refined enough to not clog small orifices. It might or might not be a viable option for what you are after.

Maybe Hope RS4 could hold some thick oil in since it is said to have good seal and only two pawls officially intended for road users sensitive to noise?

why in the world would you even consider this? Hubs like this are designed to work a certain way, filling it with oil (which will end up being a mess) can't do anything but make then not work correctly long term. basically this is another dumb idea.

it was posted before but if you want silent, look an the onyx hubs which are marketed as silent: (the Onyx Vesper MTB CL 135/QR HG Rear Hub combines a new lightweight 7075 Aluminum alloy hub shell with Enduro Stainless Steel bearings to create a smooth rolling and strong hub. The patented dual sprag clutch mechanism provides instant clutch engagement during your power stroke and instant disengagement when coasting. The hub is totally silent before, during and after clutch engagement; a truly silent hub.)

Are there any cheaper Chinese made ones with a sprag clutch? Couldn't find one on aliexpress. Probably Chinese doesn't want to take the risk since the hub shell needs to be strong when the one way bearings are used. On the other hand it seems strange that there aren't more hubs like these made in the first place since one way bearings are widespread industrial and automotive components.

So far mixing Lucas Red'n tacky grease with Lucas engine assembly lube to a snoty mucus consistency has worked great in terms of noise reduction. After 250km it's still fairly quiet. It gets louder during fast descents only to become quite again while riding slowly.
