After reading through this thread and the Varia threads I'm convinced I need to get something more for safety. I just received last week 2 new rear lights and a raincoat but that didn't scratch the itch for new gear. Also got some new pedals. So, I need to start out with a rear cam. Then maybe a front cam. Then a helmet cam. I could also get a small drone that would mount on my helmet instead of the helmet cam. Or I could mount it on a rack. I could launch it in pursuit of a vehicle if needed. The people in the Varia threads swear by them, but I'm not feeling it yet. If all of that goes well, then I'll get a couple more cams to fit on the bars or the forks facing out. Got to have 360 protection. I'm also going to get some reflective tape and run it up the crack of my shorts. That should help while I'm in the drops. Anything else you can think of?

In all seriousness, I'll start with a front and rear cam. Back to more research.

Ive used a Go Pro to record the Rose Bowl Ride and BBBR a few times. Rarely use a camera for anything else,Ive got no use for a daily recording.

Too bad I didnt bring one along for the L' ERoica ride recently.

As far as riding with a camera, you should first decide if you want one for safety/ legal, etc or for recording action videos, showing pretty scenery, etc. if the later is your choice then go with the Go Pro, etc. The Drift camera above is nice for that, I had the first generation of that one several years ago. Battery life is another big factor. 2-3 hours is typical for most of the action cameras, including the Garmin Virb which I really liked, but makes them less useful as a fire and forget ride documentation. The Cycliq cameras have the longest battery life, average 4-5 hours. The light combo is another nice thing, one button, you got your safety light, and it also records on 5-10 minute loops so you never have to download or delete any files unless you actually want to save something.

This is the one I bought off of Amazon and I was real happy with it in limited use until it bounced into the River. Only $70 with the coupon. If I was riding just one bike, I would buy another and use the included bolt on mount.

I've also been down this highway, my partner has some, too.
The camera firmware is coming out with looping video, 1-minute loops unless you override it.

There are many pro's and many con's.
Bike to bike is the biggest pro, as well as Rx lenses.
The display is heads-up, so glance down and it's gone.
All things considered, I'm still going with front/rear camera in some form.
Maybe just rear cameras now to supplement these.

Mine are 16GB, hers are 32GB. If you use all the functions, 2 hours max. You can streamline functions to get 8 hours.

I ordered a couple of the Ghost XL since they have incident mode and you can clone them together. On the A-zon for $120ea. 2 of the universal mounts also. Now to figure out the best way to mount them. The rear facing one might go on the left handlebar close to the bar end.

Based on the research I've studied, I would be better off spending the money on a helmet for inside the car.
