Brooks 17 Imperial tips?

Would appreciate any helpful hints on the best way to condition a new Brooks 17 Imperial saddle. I am getting a tin of the Brooks Proofide and would like to know if there is anything special that the online information doesn't say.
Thanks in advance, Frank.

The big thing that the label doesn't mention is you'll want to put a generous schmear on the bottom when you first treat the saddle. If you've got a saddle bag or fenders, you'll never need to repeat that bottom application. No need to be so generous on the top.

Or just mount it and ride before doing anything to the leather. I found mine to be comfortable from the start. I weighed about 230.

I took care of mine by putting it in the box and sending it back. No thanks.

A thin slather of proofide on the underside first thing, then repeat every year or so, then ride, ride, ride. I find my new Brooks saddles comfortable from the start (except for my C-17).

Use Proofide to protect the leather, but the cutout makes the Imperial pretty darn comfortable out of the box.
