2022 was a terrible riding season for me. Work got in the way more than usual.
Maybe a new SS will get me to make time to ride in 2023.........

Technically not a 2023 photo but the bike hasn't really changed and you wanted the best looking bike on the list so I don't like to disappoint.

Beautiful bikes. Were the track dropouts difficult to find? Did you fabricate them yourself?

Always love seeing these.

I bought it last week and it showed up yesterday. I paid less than the asking price and have already made my money back selling some of the parts that were on it. The only things I kept were the frame, fork, bottom bracket, headset and wheels/tires.

I built it up with parts I already had on my Merlin before I sold the frame.

Here is a link to the original listing.

Crabon? We done need no stinkin Crabon

Anyway nysss bike - it took some forethought to see it from what it was in the fleabay ad. Enjoy it...

I have the original zipp track dropouts but I need longer dropouts because of the belt system so I had several pairs fabricated.

My single speed is a Peugeot PX10E that I bought in 1971… Yes, I’ve had it and ridden it regularly for 52 years…

The frame was powder coated glossy black about 15 years ago… The wheels were built in 1977 with Phil Wood Hubs and Mavic rims… The tires are Schwalbe Marathon… The bottom bracket is Phil, the cranks are Campy Athena… Gearing is 39 x 18… Pedals are dual sided from Nashbar…

The frame had cantilever braze on mounts added in the 1980’s and have Mafac Criterium Cantilevers on them… The headset is French thread Campy Record… Stem and bars are no name upgrades from Amazon… Brake levers are from Velo Orange… The seat was replaced five years ago and is a Brooks Pro… The original Brooks seat I still use, but on my beach cruiser…

This bike has been my many things over the years… Sole method of transportation, going out on a date machine, triathlon racer, century steed, city cruiser and now one of three daily drivers in our small town with flat and empty beach town roads…

As Neil Young once said ”long may you run”…

After I posted that old flatbar weight-weenie pic of my bike a few weeks ago, that I've been riding with drops ever since - I got a yearning to give an old school fixie-foo narrow riser that I've been hoarding a try. Lemme tell you - what a change in ride and feel from the drops. Kinda reminds me what got me so attached to sw8 phiksies to begin with. Anyway...

It's a cool bike but curious what the issue with the current headset is? I do like Chris King and have had 3 of their headsets (and still have two currently) but I wouldn't buy another headset unless there was an issue all my CK (and high end headset) buys have been on frame up builds that I am starting. I think they are nicely made and finished and have excellent bearings but I wouldn't swap out unless I was having issues there are so many other things I would rather spend the money on.

Just cause I want to. I'm a bartender at a ski resort, I don't have any bills, I rarely buy gas, I live in my van, I eat rice and beans, I don't drink or smoke, I'm not married. In return I have a full ice climbing/mountaineering/backpacking setup, multiple pairs of skis and snowboards, etc. I was born and raised in Flint Michigan and didn't have nice things when I was younger. I'm just playing with my toys before my body starts to give up. I don't really have a parts bin, I just donate or sell what I'm not using.
