It gets down to how you use it.

Do you want to carry things? You could put on a carrier rack.

Do you ride after dark? You may want lights.

You may want a horn, or bell, or both.

Does it have fenders? Do you want fenders?

I recently put mirrors on my bike. I think I will continue to have mirrors in the future.

Start with the "contact points". Seat, handlebar, grips, pedals. Better tires (tho some come with ok tires, and can always upgrade when they wear out). A lot depends on the components that came stock. May not need to upgrade much that comes on a high-dollar bike, as compared to one at a lower price point.

I have tried a few options. Some have stuck and some I feel will be used as I get older, I am 72.

Changed the flat bars for mustache. Nice but I will hold off for a later change. Instead, I am running the stock flat, shortened 1.5 in, and added vertical grips for a different hand position on longer rides. Also, taller and shorter stem.

Swapped out the rear cogs and RD for a lower gear, 11-36, for the hills where I ride. I have also changed the tires from 28mm to 37mm. The next set will probably be 32's as the 37's just don't feel right to me on this bike. Also the saddle but that is totally a personal thing as the stock might be just what you wanted. These are just what I have done to fill my needs and nothing more than that. You might want to ride your bike a while and see what you want to change if anything. Good luck, be safe and have fun.
Frank.

How do you like the Jones bar? I like the area you have with that bar for the computer and additional hand grip. Nice setup.

I concur about about contact points. My best mods of been my Ergon GP3 grips and my Shimano Saint MX80 Flat Pedals.

I've tried quite a few mirrors, but the ones that I'd recommend are Mirrycle bar end mirrors.

I ordered the Shimano Deore XT PD-T8000 SPD pedal that is SPD on one side and flat on the other. It should be here Tuesday and I will see how it works out, but I wanted the flexibility to ride with clip-in shoes if I wanted.

I love my Time ATAC XC pedals. I moved all my times to these pedals, road, mountain, and commuter.

  • Ergon GP4 grips
  • SQ-Lab 411 inner bar ends
  • Race Face Chester pedals
  • S-Works carbon seat post
Have new bars waiting to be cut and will likely get a new saddle.
