Shimano cassette won't fit on White Industries T11 hub

Hey everyone,
I'm not the world's best mechanic, but I do know how to put a cassette on a cassette body but I'm having difficulties here.

I got delivery earlier this week of a new set of wheels from ProWheelBuilder.com. I took advantage of a sale they had at the end of the year and had them build a set based on White Industries T11 hubs. This morning I pulled my CS-R8000 11-28 cassette from my old Mavics and tried to install them on the new T11s. The last gear on the stack, the 11 speed, will not engage the splines on the cassette body. It's like the hub is a 10 speed rather than 11. There's just not enough space for the 11 tooth gear. There's no spacer between the hub body and the 28 tooth cluster. I even tried pulling a CS-5800 11-32 off of a different set of wheels and and had the same problem.

I've e-mailed ProWheelBuilder but they probably aren't going to answer because it's the weekend so I'm hoping someone here has some experience. I hope this is something stupid I'm overlooking. Any recommendations for what to try?

Mine work fine (sample size of 3), so it isn't inherent to the T11. If somehow you got a 10-speed version, the Shimano 11 speed 11-34T Ultegra and 105 cassettes will work. (They come with a spacer for conventional 11 speed hubs).

Also: Sometimes the new hubs arrive with a spacer. Make sure yours doesn't have it.

Thanks. I'll triple check that there's no spacer.

My T11 has been running 11 speed since 2015 with no problems. Check for spacers and make sure you have an HG freehub.

Captain Obvious reporting in Sir!

When you install the first ten cogs, you need to ensure the smaller spline lines up or the cog won't fit.
You must also to this with the last cog, it's just tougher to do. Else the lockring may not thread on.

Sorry to state the obvious. But it might have been overlooked.

Thanks Captain! At this point it's got to be something obvious. That last cog just doesn't have any space to fit, let alone the lock ring. Maybe a few beers tonight will lead to a solution.

You are correct, the 11th cog locks into the 10th and only the very tip of the hub.

Quick update....I found this https://www.whiteind.com/wp-content/...on-Guide-1.pdf document on WI's web site and it looks like I was sent a wheelset with a 10 HG driver rather than the 11 speed I spec'ed. Checking with the vendor and will update with what I find out.

The builder should make it right, but the above cassette work-around gives you another option.

Questions for your wheelbuilder:
If you swap freehubs from 10 to 11, is that going to also require an new axle kit? And if it requires a new axle kit, is that going to change the wheel dish?

White Industries does sell new drivers but thanks for pointing out the dish. I'll bring that up.

Yes, and some of those drivers (freehub bodies) require different axles to work. And that's usually because 11 speed drivers are wider, requiring more axle on the drive side and more dish as a result.

So you might need two parts and a re-true.

Update: ProWheelBuilder sent me a 11 speed cassette hub, I put it on yesterday and I'm in business. It fit on the same axel so no replacement needed there and PWB confirmed that it would not affect the dish. It's supposed to be warm this week so I'm hoping to get out on the maden voyage soon.

They do a real good job of documenting the various configurations.
