What's Your Favorite Bike Oil?

3in1 oil. Drop on each individual link and wipe it off really good. No build up and it does the 3 things I want it to do. Loving my clean drive train, and quite. I'm stealth on my fixie and almost there on my 3x7 commuter. Fell for the regular wd 40 thing and had to do a complete drive train teardown to clean up the mess.

Lithium or marine grease if there's bearings involved, wax on the chain, and small amounts of sewing machine oil on the DRs, brake calipers, shifters, brake levers and cables. I only use the oil after a good cleaning and have probably washed off all the lubricant.

Obviously, they are your very last option for bike lube. Even if you have no money for lube, there are far better choices like left over automotive oils. You can have these at 0$.

Do we really need to go through all this again? A linky to the last 100 lube threads should suffice. There was a whole multi-page thread dedicated to WD40 last week!

This summer I'm going to use citronella oil on my bike when I ride the riverside trails to keep the mosquitos away. Last summer I used suntan oil.

Well, I do use oil on my chain because it isade out of steel. 3in1 oil is cheaper and I use it frequently. It thin so it works itself in and the rollers and pins, which is grinding while in use. The black stuff you are wiping off is ground to powder steel. Second it is cleaning, and third it is oiling the high grade steel. You can pay for marketing if you want. I'll change my chain just as you will when the time comes. It always happens to all chains

LOL, I've been away for a while and just come back. Have people started posting yet about the wave/no-wave protocol?

There's a lot of petroleum and synthetic oil products that work fine.
But for an actual bike oil, I like an ultra-refined oil made from micro-pulverized vintage Italian frames and components in a matrix of rendered spermaceti harvested in a sustainable way from the species physeter macrocepalus. What makes it so good as a bike oil are the fine Italian additives. What makes it so rare is the sustainable harvesting of the spermaceti.

This is funny! 😂
I bought some pro lube and dry lube from a store that used to make it for bike nashbar before it went out of business. I have pretty impressed with the pro lube for commuting duties.

I tried waxing, but the hair came off the chain...
After years of fooling around with a slew of lubes, I have found two lubes that I liked the most so far! One is Rock n Roll Ultimate Dry, and the other is Dumonde Tech Lite which has become my all-time favorite, it lasts a very long time, like around 500 miles between lubes, and the chain lasts and lasts. I started using it on my 2020 Masi touring bike, that bike now has about 5,000 miles on it, I checked the chain wear every 3 months and so far, that chain has not worn at all; it also doesn't wash off in rain.

May I ask what WD40 are peoole talking about? Is it the original WD40 penetrant, or the specific WD40 dry bike lube that comes in small cans ? Then there is is this WD40 that I also want to ask if it will be ok:
