Start at the J/105 Worlds (or something) with 3 fleets and 90 boats on the line. We suck ass, but the owner/driver is a really great starter. We bust a very quick tack onto the lee bow of a top boat from SF with inches to spare, right at the committee boat, with seconds to go. He was sure he had shut that door. Someone on the other boat yells, “Don’t ever do that again!” It became a standing joke for us and still gives me a chuckle.
Of course they beat us by like 20 boats, anyway.

Well, since sailboats never race in a straight line, there is a lot involved such as:
- which side of the course is favored due to wind speed, direction, wave action, the effects of shorelines on wind, the effects of current on speed over ground
- what are your competitors doing - should you lead, follow, cover, take a flyer to try to gain on them when they are ahead
- how can you get to the best spot on the starting line without fouling another boat

The big difference is that in bike, running, cars, and virtually all other races, the competitors are following the same path. In sailboat racing, there is no path. On a lake, for example, two boats heading toward the same turning mark can be a quarter mile or more apart and sailing in completely different wind and water conditions.

Watch out for ticks, they seem to like the fallen leaves. Two days in a row I've found one on me. So small, about the size of a pin head, easy to miss. I'm super vigilant this time of the year, they're always in the leaves.

If I were swimming in extra cash, I could see getting one of those electric crate motors, to put it into a late 50s-60s land yacht. Something huge and weird looking, like an Imperial or pre-61 Lincoln. It's hard to justify driving something that gets single- digit miles per gallon as the planet warms and the seas rise.
Then again, if you equip them with a powerful electric motor, you still have crappy drum brakes, so you should upgrade those, too.

I feel like I'm starting to come around on the trainer. Rode two of the London maps (going after bonus experience points by covering routes that I haven't ridden) and had decent efforts (right around my outdoor FTP) in both the 10 and 20 minute range (Box Hill and TTing the Greater London Flat route, respectively).
Oh, and this was the first time firing up the fake TT bike. They fly. I should get one IRL

I used a beer can shim to stop a 27.2 seatpost sliding down the 27.4 seat tube on the Battaglin, before I got a 27.4 seatpost. Mind you, moving that 27.4 seatpost is a chore. 27.2 keeps slipping, 27.4 requires a lot of force to insert or move. I'm thinking it's really a 27.3.
