And also ... I tried indoor cycling, and I cannot imagine how people find it practical. I scratched up all the furniture and left marks on the floors. I'd say definitely stick with cycling out-of-doors.

You got off easy. My brother and I tried indoor baseball. All the walls in the living room looked like Swiss cheese!

The cat definitely did not respond well to "on your left".

Local thrift store might have an old indoor cycling machine for $10 or so, and the resistance will definitely be sufficient.

Indoor trainers put more strain on the bike frame than regular bicycling. Also no reason to buy an expensive lightweight bike and use it indoors. Recommend buying a used steel frame bike and then reading the reviews for the various trainers. Power meters are an indulgence and a heart rate monitor is a much better investment in your physical fitness and it can be used on outdoor rides so you better evaluate how hard to push.

That doesn't mean that it's damaging, however.

OP did the usual one post hit and run. We end up talking to ourselves about things that do not concern us.
