Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In debating between a trainer ride or a bundling up for a cold ride outside, I decided on another latte.

....for now.

Wife is having the kitchen cabinets and fireplace surround refinished starting Tuesday - 2 nice bikes.

Wife says no big deal. Just keep going to work.

Prostate surgery scheduled for Monday. Now I'm not excited about it. Laser surgery though, if it makes a difference. Still a catheter for 3 days. Doctor also says no bike riding for 3 months which seems excessive.

When I had a wheel-on trainer, I found that it was really hard on tires.

3 months!? What if you got a recumbent?

I think I'll spring for a SUB when I get that procedure, seems like it would be doable after a couple weeks.

Thanks. I know someone with something like that. I should call them. Would they be acceptable on a group ride?

I don't think I can get Mrs. GeneJockey to agree to a direct drive trainer, sadly, so I think I need to source another rear wheel and cassette.

Ohhh, sorry to hear. Hope all goes well. 3 months sounds long, but what do I know?

I bet using that that thing once a week is good for preserving bone density in elderly exercise addicts too.

Thanks. The pre-op meeting nurse felt that was long, too.

On my wheel on trainer I had to really tighten the roller to keep the wheel from slipping and I think the deformation heated the tire up way more than normal.

That's right. I flatted on an INDOOR TRAINER. I started feeling the tire slipping, and I thought, WTF? Sure enough, the tire was squishy. A few moments later, I could squeeze the sidewalls together. A few moments after that it was dead flat. No *BANG!*, no *FFffFFffFFffFFff*, just went flat.

I can only assume that Fate doesn't want me to do this ride tonight. I'm sure as hell not going to try again at 11 PM!!!!

Co2 and a tube in the saddle bag, because you never know.

We had our boiler inspected last week. Comment was, “you got space heaters?”

Thing better keep working. This is siding, windows, and boat electronics year.

That has happened to LSS, who also blew up a trainer tire.
