Also, there is some kind of exemption for seniors if you were to sell your long-time family home and move. You can keep the old property tax, or close to it, one time.

I think if you were to buy a house for $600,000 you would be paying about $600 per month in property tax. If you had bought that same house 20 years ago for $250,000 the monthly would be less but I don't think it would be 1% of the 250K, I think it goes up in some cases but there are limits and loopholes. I really don't know how much the assessed value figures in.

I didn't know you could do that, I thought the stem sealed against the outside of the rim, as well as the inside. If you used an extender it would have to have a nut against the rim to pull the stem tight? Seems like the wrong way to do it.

You're probably right. That said, I have seen extenders that are threaded to be able to use the rim nut.

We have taxes here too. We pay roughly 5K/year property and school taxes, plus a flat 3.1% state income tax and 1% local income tax...and 6% sales tax. I suspect that's not as bad as Texas but worse than California.

Sales tax here is 9.5 to 10.25% depending on which city has jurisdiction.

Property taxes are about 3% of assessed value (our home's assessed value is about 2/3 of likely market value, the office building is not so fortunate), 8.5% sales tax, but no income tax. Since we have no income tax, I come out ahead by quite a bit.

Wut. The property tax on my small row house is $4200/year. School tax is a certain percentage of certain earnings, including normal bank income and rental profit if you’re a landlord. Sales tax in the city in 8%. Wage tax is around 4.5%.

If I won a lottery I would have a house here in the Santa Monica mountains. Of course, I've never been anywhere so I might change my mind if I looked around, but it's hard to imagine a better climate than the Southern California coastal mountains.

Our climate is not much different from yours, but we have no hills. No elevation at all, without first getting in the car.

22 hours since I last ate. No appetite. 2 cups of instant coffee and my wife is getting me an ice cream bar. I prolly should be doing more fluids though. I've never been one to keep up on the fluid intake while sick. I remember when I was in college a group of us went to some outing where half of us got food poisoning. I had to go the the hospital. I remember them waking me up to take a pill, several times, and nothing more. I think I slept for three days.

I got a message on Ebay from the seller of the Litespeed. UPS will pick up the bike on Monday!
I confess I was concerned, since the seller lives in Kentucky, in one of the counties hit by the tornadoes last week. I wondered whether the seller would tell me the bike was scattered all over Southern Kentucky.

Ginger Ale. Maybe flat Coke. Plain water probably won't sit well.

My choice would be the central coast (San Luis Obispo area).
