My bike computer has a small battery, as does the sensor on the spokes. That's it unless I am riding at night. I don't carry a phone or other devices.

Anyone with a pacemaker or anything out of the ordinary?

One, for the rear blinkie. Two, if you want to count the cell phone.

My phone is usually in my pocket, but that's not 'on' the bike, so zero.

So, that makes 10. The new Varia, with one battery, replaces 4 - Varia (radar only), Flare tail light, GoPro camera (rear facing), Anker power supply for GoPro.
the new varia is tempting, haven’t read the DCR review yet. do you have it yet?

Should be arriving today. Reviews have been mixed - mostly about the lack of image stabilization. But, most of the roads I ride are fairly smooth (no gravel or mountain biking) and stabilization could very well be a software update in the future.

i wish it wasn’t so much bigger - but i’m guessing that practically speaking that really doesn’t matter if mounted on the seat post. mine is mounted from the rear of my saddle with a 3d printed bit, i’d have to rethink that.

i’d like it for longer battery life (with camera off) and recordings of drivers who do dangerous **** in the city. stabilization probably wouldn’t be needed for me.

None "in bike", however when I'm riding: 1 in my Garmin, 1 in my Apple Watch, 1 in my iPhone and 1 in. my ICD ( implantable cardioverter-defibrillator).

only 38 votes, but an odd almost-valley shaped statistical distribution with lots of 0/1 batteries and the next highest peak at 5–7. basically, people either avoid gadgets and high/tech bikes…. or they go all in.

I wanted to make sure I was clear which you were asking before I marked the poll.

So I am now assuming you want a tally of all the batteries that come along on my ride, right?

Just realized I didn't include the phone battery, but it is almost irrelevant to the operations, so I will just mark the poll with the remaining ones.

right, in the bike, or attached to the bike serving a bike related function. if you have your laptop or phone in a backpack, that doesn’t count. phone on your handlebars running a cycling app, controlling your ebike, etc, yes.

Sorry, the "in/on" was hidden in plain sight in the subtitle for the caption to the poll.

Well, I was hoping to win this, one but sadly not!

I'm at 14 all in unless I'm doing an all night ride in which case I'd have an extra headlight and then I'd be at 15. I'm no more advanced than GhostRider62 !

ironically, my creo (eBike) has less batteries than my aethos. a long ride at night:

iphone
front light
main battery
control unit battery
varia
HRM
ICD

vs.

iphone
front light
di2
left shifter
right shifter
left PM
right PM
varia
HRM
ICD

So Arc Reactors are not to be included? Not sure it would really be labelled as a battery anyway.

if it’s part of your ride, e.g. logging ride data, count it. if it’s just there for emergencies or for when you stop for a break to check your portfolio or chat, no.

So ~23% of the respondents don't ride pre-dawn or post-dusk?

Must not be serious cyclists.

Hadn't stopped to think about it but looks like 8. If I'm driving to a ride somewhere it would be 9 with the keyfob, but I don't do that very often.
  • Headlight
  • Tailight
  • Cyclic rear cam
  • Garmin
  • Speed/cadence sensor
  • HRM strap
  • Di2
  • iphone

On or in the bike or on or in me:
  1. Di2 battery. To my knowledge, 11 speed Di2 systems only have one battery. Do you others counting Shimano shifters and DR's already have Shimano 12 speed? If so, I'm envious! <grin>
  2. Edge 530
  3. Varia RVR 515
  4. Garmin GSC10 (for wheel speed)
  5. HR Strap
  6. Bontrager Flare front light
  7. Bontrager Flare rear light
  8. 4iiii left crank PM
  9. S-works Angi crash sensor
  10. Wireless handset paired with Zello app on phone for communication with spouse, son or anyone on my contact list with zello as if I'm using a walkie-talkie. Saves having to specifically answer the phone for a call or dialing to make a call.
  11. Cell Phone (in my back pocket).
  12. Implanted cardiac device. Just a loop monitor to record my heartbeat 24x7. Though the battery died a few months ago and I haven't had it taken out yet.
Though I didn't win the total, do I get a prize for unusual?

Not even one battery on the bike...The only battery powered gadgets I carry are a cell phone and a tactical flashlight both of which stay in my cargo pants pocket.
