Scenic San Diego area rides?
Anybody have recommendations for scenic rides in the San Diego area? I have to travel there on business soon and want to get some riding in.

For a more hilly scenic, ride up to the top of Mount Soledad. It is a bit steep, but the view from the top is fantastic.

Honestly pretty much wherever you ride is going to be nice. I lived there for 12 years and a ride I always enjoyed was leaving my place in downtown, riding up thorough La Jolla and Torrey Pines and up to Carlsbad and back. It’s nice because you go through all the popular S.D. beach towns, P.B., La Jolla, Solano Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and up to Oceansideetc....Another option for that same route is to take the Coaster ( a public low cost train ) up to Oceanside and ride back to S.D., it’s around 40 miles each way. There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the scenery, a popular stop is called Pizza Port in Solano Beach, awesome pizza and even better beer, just add it to your expense report, we won’t tell! ;-)

If you need a rental B&L Bikes can get you taken care of, ha, they happen to be about 4-5 doors down from Pizza Port ( no I didin’t work for either business). They would also be a good place to phone and ask about any group rides that may be planned while you are there, or at least give you some nice routes in North County.

You can't go anywhere in SanDiego and not find it scenic.
If you are in the Mission Valley area, hook up with the CycloVets.
If you are in No.County, check out the SDBC or Swamis rides. You should have some fun...

Other than the 101, no matter where you go in SD you'll find hills. Mountains if you go east. Lot's of map my rides to try. GL

North on PCH (aka Triathlete Central) is the natural choice from Torrey Pines. There are a few routes branching eastward from PCH on the SoCal Route Repository Thread I mentioned before.

You got it. Can you make it to Pizza Port in Carlsbad Village? The one in Solana doesn't have C'bad's variety, and has too many lick-em-stick-em tattooed orthodontists & paralegals dressed up as renegade motorcycle outlaws for my taste.

This area has cost me at least 10K in last 2 years, I stayed right there at the Hilton by the ocean on 101 in Carlsbad...watching all the cool cyclists I decided to by me one

This is a timely thread for me! I lived in Pacific Beach 1994-1997 and am heading back to SD for a short break soon. I know some nice places to ride, but am not sure the best way to get North from the Rosecrans / North Harbor Drive area. Is Nimitz / Ingraham likely to be the best options?
