Something you didn’t need but couldn’t resist...
I know this probably explains a healthy proportion of everyone’s parts bin (or entire collection), but I was inspired by this little find today. Someone posted a Suntour Competition for sale locally, and I couldn’t pass up this corner of bike history for $20. Had to have it.
It’s hard for me conceive of a use for such a limited range and capacity given the hills near me, but I know I would have regretted passing this up.

This bike was in the metal pile at the dump where I used to live in Idaho, you're not supposed to take stuff, but... I couldn't pass it up!
Not sure what I'll do with it quite yet, but its a nice frame and fork, its a Trek with full 531 frame stays and fork...

Well.....not bike related at all to be honest. But I saw this one day while out antiquing. Couldn't get it off my mind so about 3 months later I called the see if it was still there and then made the 3 hour round trip to get it. Makes no sense what so ever, LOL!
I still need to refinish it. It's all solid butcher block type wood under the paint. Just something whimsical someone made one day I guess.

Every bike in the frame except the Ritchey. I could have stopped there and had one really great bike.

Meanwhile, here's a little Swiss-made Condor 3-speed that was at the co-op forever. Didn't need it, don't have space for it, have no use for it. Cute, ain't it?

Given CF, Ti and lugged steel each with Ergo10spd = my entire vintage group is really unnecessary.

if i were to narrow down to one something special, it would be the '82 trek 614 90% original for $125 on the local CL. it was years ago and sold the frame after several years of enjoyment to fund something else "special". in retro, i should have kept the trek....though i didn't need it. i did keep the drivetrain, though

I’ve always been curious about suicide rod shifters. And I can confirm they kind of suck.

Yea, I’m in the middle of a build , or at least getting started. A 1980 Motobecane Grand Sprint showed up locally on CL minus wheels for $20. I had it powder painted and got some decals and now sifting through my parts bin to make an outlaw bike(non original) . I am thinking Campy NR for at least some of it. It came with Shimano drive and Spidel brakes. I will keep the original Motobecane cranks , I like the 52/40 combo. As if I need another bike......

Recently there was a turbo saddle on V-sales I didn't need but I wanted. It stayed on a bit, then I said screw it I'm gonna go for it but thankfully (I guess) someone bought it.
But I didn't let a DA Crankset get away that I absolutely Do Not need.

I did not need a third Capo, particularly a repaint, but it is in otherwise great condition, a top-of-the-line Sieger, full butted Reynolds 531, and a littermate of my other Sieger (see serial numbers in signature). As my workload winds down back to normal, I hope to have time to give both, and my sister-on-law's Carlton, the attention they deserve. I bought my other Sieger as a complete bicycle with almost all of the original parts, and my plan is to rebuild that one pretty authentically and to restomod this one.

One of my high school buddies had a 1960 Schwinn Continental with a Simplex suicide shifter, and I recall being tempted years ago by an eBay offering of a 1958 Peugeot with suicide shift. Earlier Capo Siegers had Capo-branded derailleurs, which look like crude copies of their Simplex equivalents. This is the system that Adolf Christian rode to a third place overall finish in the 1957 Tour de France (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Christian). By 1960 Otto Cap had wisely switched to Campagnolo derailleurs and focused on framebuilding, which was his real strength.
