Half link chains
Hello all,
I’m in a bit of a pinch. I have a cannondale CAAD 8 frame (vertical dropouts) and I have been doing a single speed conversion. I currently have a freewheel (19t) on the rear, and a 46t narrow wide on the front (for geared bikes, 3/32 design) and the spacing is such that I cannot get the chain tension correct with a standard chain. Will a 1/8” half link chain work with the narrow wide chainring at the front? I have a 104 BCD crankset (at my LBS for cheap). I had a chain tensioner on it but because the chain line isn’t exact, it’s constantly clicking, and I can’t afford a new wheelset to put a conversion kit on.Any suggestions on a new chainring that will work with a half link, or will a half link chain work on the crank I currently have? Please help!

You can use a 1/8 inch chain with your 3/32 gears, no problem. Whether you'll find a length that works perfectly, even with a half link chain, is another matter.

You don't need a half-link chain. Just get a single half-link to fine tune the length of your chain. If you are running a single freewheel, chain slack is not a big issue.
