Vintage Bicycle Restoration services in Calgary

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone knows of a quality Vintage Bicycle Restoration service in or around Calgary Alberta Canada please.
Very slim pickings in this neck of the woods and I don't wish to have to pay for shipping!!
Thanks very much.

Well you have one of the best, affordable refinishers in country and while you will have to ship to Marinoni in Quebec, you will be impressed with the quality and service as well as the cost, they are stellar at this.

There is also Mariposa in Toronto and Chris Dekerf in Richmond B.C.

What work do you need done?

If you have BikeFlights or a similar service in Calgary, you can get really good prices on shipping frame and fork. I have shipped many framesets for $30 US across the country.

To be honest that paint looks quite good as is. If the decals are flaking off you could replace just those.

Alexi Grewal race colors as used in the 1984 Olympic road race... snookering a Canadian to win in what became a 2 man break at the end.

I can see replacing the primary graphics... Maybe.

Tx for more pics, we could use even more if you would, maybe some closer ups of the trouble spots that are bothering you.

The more I see, the more I say you should keep it as is, and pursue the "resto" detail, cleanup and polish.

This looks great for its age and condition, you've done a good job of taking care of it and that is a big part of the story that should be preserved like the bike as well.

It would be a bad idea to destroy that original paint and art. A professional repaint will cost a lot, and Bike Flights is not all that inexpensive in Canada. To that add that your lovely new paint/art job will actually lower the value of the bicycle, from a collectible point of view. It is, of course, your bike but you would be wise to think this through. A bike can be repainted an infinite number of times. It can be original only one time and original is valuable, more often than not.

It does have enough scrapes and bruises upon closer viewing, it's why I am on the fence.

You are right of course. After I clean up everything and reassemble I will have a bike shop here in Calgary add the decals and see how it looks. If I am still on the fence I may go for a scratch/chip touch up direction if someone in town can paint match.

Restoration update:
Just thought I would thank everyone for their help in pointing me in the right direction. I have removed most components from the frame as far as I can. Needed a couple of Mavic tools for the Headset and Crankset and the gentleman who will be restoring/rebuilding it said he would rather finish removing the headset and crank himself. I have disassembled/cleaned and polished everything else. I have been purchasing NOS as well as used items on eBay and so far I have 2 Mavic rims(old ones are really dinged up), new decals from Greg Softely, NOS Modolo lever hoods, Mavic tools(for headset and crankset). The best news is I have found this local restorer and though I have to wait until end of July for him to retouch the paint/rebuild, due to him being very busy, but I don't mind waiting one bit!! The only thing that I will change at a later date is switch out the Mavic Groupset to Campagnola because that it what I wanted originally but could not afford as a young 'un!!

Late on this thread as well...
I'd be curious to know who's doing the restoration job, good to know who's in town doing this kind of job.
Rath Bicycle here in Calgary does a flawless job at restoring vintage bikes from the little I've seen, t was really impressed with the examples i've seen.

Sorry for the late reply as well. I originally purchased decals online from cyclomondo.net(Greg Softley in Australia)as well as a German online Store. Velociao.com
Cheers

Sorry for the late reply. My bad. I did not renew my subscription and missed some replies.

Yes, Tom did the frame touch up and looks good with the new decals!
Cheers.

Thanks for the advice!! I went ahead with a frame touch up and new decals along with a strip down, clean and tuneup. Looks and rides great now!!

Apologies for the late reply. Yes the actual paint scheme was Arco 84 or something like that. I had been told by a forum member. I also heard that Grewal was not sponsored by Pinarello. Not sure about that and will look for info on that. I did go ahead with a paint touch up, new decals and overhaul. I know now that as a collectible it would have been better to leave the paint as it, but it was more my own satisfaction to have it looking a bit fresher.
Thanks for your advice and comment!!
