Howdy from Texas

Howdy folks!

I am from Dallas, Texas , and started riding a bicycle when I lived in Amsterdam in 2010-2011. I bought a bike there and enjoyed the bike lanes and amazing accessibility for cyclists. I was young and didn't know a lot about bikes, and was focused on art school.
Now I'm in Texas. Despite this city not being very bike-friendly, I started riding again and decided I want to restore my dutch bike. I mostly want to restore it because of its sentimental value. When I bought it, it was already a little beat up. Now you can imagine it's a little more beat up. That makes it more of a fun challenge to fix up.
I'm curious to hear if there are other cyclists here who like restoring older bikes in this forum.

I joined this forum because I am currently learning everything I can about bikes! I may buy a cross-over type of bike so I can go riding with my boyfriend on and off-road. I'm open to suggestions on affordable bikes and places to learn the basics of bike maintenance and restoration.

Glad to be here,
Coraco

Welcome to the Texas forum. The biking is a world of difference but it can be done. There is a forum for classic and vintage bikes where people offer advice and ask questions. There may be someone else with your bike.
Check DORBA.org for off road information.

Welcome to BF

Its hard to compare with Amsterdam but Dallas is a very good bike city.

I have biked in many major TX and US cities and Dallas is one of the better places to ride.

RE: affordable bikes

Dallas DFW also has one of the best LBS with shops in various spots see https://www.bikemart.com/

Welcome. Since moving to Texas a decade ago, I only ride on sidewalks (except where it is prohibited) and multi-use paths. The traffic lanes in my area are too dangerous for me to enjoy riding in them.
