Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

While Mrs. GeneJockey was coming to fetch me, The Younger Boy walked down to Trader Joes and got 2 half-gallons of their oh-so-rich vanilla ice cream. He figured that was more fun than an ice pack for my lip. He was right! A post-ride milkshake as a recovery drink....

I can’t eat watermelon due to some chemicals in it but I can eat cantaloupes, honeydews, etc. has something to do with radiation damage to my intestines.

Love cantaloupe.

According to the internets, there's more melons--most of which look suspicious.

Several miles into it another guy dropped off, said he had to be somewhere. As soon as the first hills came we lost another one. He hasn't been on the bike but I expected him to stay on a little longer. Found out later he did go about 50 on the day, his longest in years.

We got mixed in with another group and our leaders got ahead so while trying to get back to them my friend was right-hooked by a Mercedes. She skidded and almost hit the car but saved it. We both yelled but the driver didn't even look our way.
Later, I broke a spoke. Jinxed myself the other day when I said I haven't broken one in a long time. I wobbled the last 15 miles back to the car.

My friend called to tell me one of the riders on a different ride was hit by a car. He was descending a curvy road and a driver tried to pass him in a turn and just ran into him. His wife picked him up and took him to the hospital and I don't know what injuries he has. The guy who called said another rider went off on the driver and had to be told to calm down.

I got rained on, hailed on, snowed on, and the roads iced up. Thank heavens I prepare to ride on another planet when I do Mt. Evans.

That's why it was written that way.

Rain on the way up, then hail. Hail on the way down, then snow and with spots of ice on the road due to the gale force winds.

Yes. Finding a perfectly ripe honeydew can be a challenge.

Gotta go by smell. If it smells like ripe melon, it'll taste like ripe melon. If it smells like nothing, it'll taste like nothing.

This would be a problem if watermelon were edible.
