C&V 23.35 mm crank puller pass-around thread

In blatant imitation of cudak88's cotter press pass-around thread, I'm offering up a Stein 23.35 mm crank puller as a pass-around loaner to any forum member who needs it.

The rules of The Classic & Vintage Pass Around 23.35 mm Crank Puller are simple:
  1. The puller will be shipped in a Small Flat Rate box or envelope to you upon request.
  2. As nominal payment for using the tool, you will cover whatever the going rate is for a Small Flat Rate box or envelope to ship it to the next person. Don't ship it back - that's inefficient and the previous user will get stuck for another $9 to ship it back out again.
  3. If the box/envelope is too tattered to re-use when you get it, please replace it.
  4. For now, let's keep it within the US - this means we're only talking $9-10 to ship for each user, not $29-30.
  5. Everyone requesting the puller must announce so in this thread and when they have received it, thus making it clear who has the puller at any given time.
  6. Please post photos of its use!
  7. You can use the puller as long as you need until someone else requests it. When they do, they should also communicate via PM to the current holder of the puller with their shipping address. The holder of the puller must ship it out to them within four (4) days, and provide the tracking number.
  8. There is no limit to requesting the tool; we realize that you may have to pull a crank again.
  9. If you wreck your crank using this tool, that's on you. It's possible; smooth removal is a blessing, but not a guarantee.
************************************
Do not request the puller if:
  • You have less than 10 posts.
  • You cannot use the PM system.
  • You cannot expect to ship the puller within the aforementioned four days (within reason - if you wind up incapacitated for a week from a cold or COVID, this will be understood, of course).
  • You intend to use it at a profit-making bike shop. This offer is for enthusiasts, not for businesses.
  • You intend to sell the puller.
  • You will be banned from this and any future goodwill tool loaner efforts and will receive scathing transaction feedback if you unreasonably violate the rules above.
************************************
If the puller breaks or the USPS loses the puller:
  • I am not going to police this thread. The puller cost about $42. The puller is simple and appears robust, but in my experience pullers do not last forever. We will see how far this goes.
************************************
By the way, I can confirm that this puller was too big for at least one Stronglight crank that it ought to fit. Sorry if that happens. I don't think the problem is specific to Stein as others have reported the same problem before. I used a Stein 23 mm TA puller on that crank and it worked, but I do not have a spare 23 mm at this time.

Let the crank pulling commence!

If the offer is still on the table, I could use the puller for an old Stronglight I have.

I have my own so don't need this service but I applaud albrt for making it available and thinking thru the system to make it useful to the maximum number of conscientious hobbyists.
The Stein tool is robust and high quality, which is better than my own which is OEM Stronglight.
If people show both the proper respect I believe this tool and tool loan program can last for decades...Kudos!
(Hint: apply grease to the threads and wipe them "clean" when done)

I have both 23.35 and 23.0 Stein pullers. I'm not offering to ship them, but if you're in the Portland area you're welcome to borrow one.

Any chance this thread and tool is still making the rounds? Just acquired a lovely Bertin that is in need of a crank pull.

I bought a 23/23.35 from a guy in Poland. I think he still sells on eBay. Great tool!

Stein crank puller arrived safely in Maine. Will put it to the test later today, pulling a Stronglight 105bis from my 1976 Bertin C37, I believe.
