Yes, you can make a Brooks clamp work for any two-rail saddle. It doesn't matter if the rails aren't spaced exactly right or if they aren't parallel; they are springs. They will do what you want then to do though it may take a little persuasion. You may have to fiddle and futz to assemble the clamp with a poorly fitting saddle. The trick is to get all the parts together on the saddle with the post one place. If the rails don't seat properly, start tightening the nuts anyway, and you'll see when you have to force one rail or another to behave. Adjust it where you want it before you tighten it. And when you have it where you want it, tighten the **** out of it.

I may actually have an Idéale clamp for a double rail saddle.... I will go look.

Much appreciated but I think I'll just get a generic clamp then and crank it down as you suggested. Was simply hesitating to do that as it seemed there had to be a better way.

As mentioned, it's unlikely that the saddle will see much use, and at any rate it will be atop the Zizzo. No need to be period correct.

Suntour XC pedals that won't break the bank.

Will consider XC-II bear traps, but preference given to more conventional designs like XC Pro, XC Comp, XX 9000, etc. Black cages are a requirement and preference given to pairs not missing their dust caps. If the spindles are black, all the better! Should spin nicely or else be serviceable. Cosmetic condition not too important. "Rider quality" is fine.

Ifn I was you, I would get some MKS BM7's for place holders and ride on.

They are plenty correct and a set you could have for the rest of your days.

Hoping to find for a wheel build for my wife's 1991 Raleigh Technium Team.

Silver-ish 700c 36 hole rims with intact braking surfaces and in decent condition. I'd prefer something with double wall construction. Hoping someone has something a step above the generic Weinmann and Araya offerings, yet not bank-breakers.

Well I get it and your not wrong but the Deore's aren't placeholders for anything IMO, the MKS's could stay forever if need be and be an upgrade from most anything, again IMO.

I have had a couple of sets of Deore's that had not lived a hard life at all, neither ended up being worth the trouble to teardown and try to revive.

Cages were to flimsy and beat up to bother with and have never impressed me anyway, most of the screws were half frozen, stripped or broken from being to small and whimpy, yet again, IMO. ​​​​​​​

FWIW: there were several other pair of "beartrap"-style XC's (various models, if I recall correctly) for sale on eBay yesterday - some pricey, some semi-reasonable. But I didn't look at those.

I think I covered all of the varied names for that size!

I'm hoping to put some alloy rims on my Superbe that I actually use as a rainy-day commuter and guest bike (both scenarios where braking performance is worth having), but also want to maintain the look as best I can. I know CR18s used to come in a polished finish in this size, but it would seem that is no longer the case.

If anyone has any 36h polished CR18s (or similar) in ISO 590 kicking around that they'd like to make a buck off of, let me know!

(I am in Canada, but could probably bug a friend in Rochester to ferry these for me if needed)

Take your pick! Th Araya is laced into a rear hub and drilled for Schrader tube. The no name one is 20mm wide while the others are all 18mm. Open pro, Mistral, no name, and Araya pics:

These all should work unless yo want something wider in profile
They will all need a bit of polishing with something like Simichrome. The last one I shipped was about $25 in a secure box. Wooden sides and cardboard top and bottom. The whole wheel is a question for shipping costs. Smiles, CrapMaster Honk
