Picked up this bike for my wife from an ad on Facebook Marketplace. It was probably a little over priced at $130 but I think it will clean up and make a nice casual low-mileage cruiser. I'm going to repaint the fenders, polish and touch up the frame and replace some rusted bolts with stainless.. It
ll also need new pedals and hand grips, new tires and a lube job on the bearings. We took it out for a short ride today and she loved it.

Absolutely not. It's a great bike in a great color. Well worth 130 bucks. it wouldn't be that cheap in my neck of the woods.

Worth a million (metaphorically) if your wife loves it, and well worth $130. I'd hate to tell you how much I spent in $ and time to construct a bike my wife didn't like.

I'm a fender/chainguard guy, put them back on. Your wife is rocking that to show up other women, and it looks like a guy's bike with the goodies off. She needs a cute (ELECTRA!!!!) basket for the front as well.

Bought this exact bike for my wife about 6 years ago($80) and it's been great. Left it completely stock other than the seat, it had a problem with one of the springs not staying in place so I put a Mango seat on it I had. She likes the chain guard and fenders although the rear fender seems to rattle a bit. Recently picked up a 3-speed Trek Pure for her at $140. Gotta do some cleanup and adjustment on the new one(actually I believe it's a 2011 or 12 also.

That's cool Mr. Pickem. My wife's Trek Wasabi, as of this week, has new tires/tubes and painted fenders (masked off and clear coated the graphics). All the rusted nuts, bolts and wahers I replaced with stainless. It appears this bike was truly a beach cruiser. Salt had eaten anything not aluminum or stainless. 😎

It's a wonderful project bike (certain parts are definitely very low quality), but the pedals (old style rat traps - ouch!), boat anchor handlebars, amazingly crappy stem, decent seat, and meh seatpost all had to go before my first ride, Now it has RockBros pedals, an adjustable handlepost, a squishy seat, zoom suspension seatpost, and different handlebars (soon to be swapped for a 90mm riser bar, too low and killin' my wrists). It still needs the brakes and derailleur tuned up a bit (hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano SLX 2x11 gearing - definitely overkill), and the wonky suspension fork (Suntour XCT w/100mm travel) is decent, but only has preload, and no lockout. Still,...it'll make a wonderful cruiser for me, once I get it spec'd to my liking.

As for the tires, I'm probably swapping the Kenda Small Block 8 tires for my Schwalbe Big Bens. The Kenda's are solid for riding the sandy backroad areas by my house, but I'll most likely be riding more paved areas. These tires aren't the quietest either. It sounds like a chainsaw is following me. LoL! If anyone lives out on Long Island HIT ME UP! I'll be giving em' away. No sense in wasting good tires.

Awesome build, but I think thats been upgraded to the point that it's not really a cruiser anymore.
When I was in junior high school about 1973/4 (before I got my new to me redline squareback) I had a royce union bmx bike with a shock in the middle. That thing was launched, ghost ridden, purposely crashed into a Porsche (hit me and think you can get away?)
and never so much as bent a wheel. Wish I would have kept it.

Oh, it's definitely going to cruiserville,.. I just swapped the handlebars for a 90mm riser bar, and Schwalbe Big Ben's are next for this baby. I have too many physical issues to keep this as a mountain bike, unfortunately. Bad back, knees, carpal tunnel, etc. Downgrades are in process as I type!

It started out as a bare frame and went through a bunch of iterations before it was "finished".

Here's another one I thikn has been updated since posting here.



The derailluer is simply a chain tensioner, it's a 5 speed IGH Sturmey hub with drum brake, which means the brake on the frame is just to hide the bosses.

With NC-17 Trekking Handlebar and higher adjustable stem (which I had on another bike),...

This totally changes the riding position for me, allowing an upright sitting position. The riser MTB bar didn't work for me.
