Carbon fiber bike life span

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm really surprised she admitted to doing something that stupid. That was a really expensive mustard packet.

Years ago a group ride had stopped while a guy worked on a flat tire. A kid came by in a car and killed him. The kid admitted he had dropped a cassette on the floor and was searching for it.

A sheriff deputy crossed into the bike lane and killed Milt Olin and it was revealed he was texting a friend on his computer. No disciplinary action was taken because they said using that computer was part of his job.

Another kid killed a cyclist near here and admitted he was downloading ring tones on his phone.

Okay .... this proves that most of the people who flipped Corvairs were drunk.

And that, my friends, solves the issue of how long CF bikes will last.

Boy, howdy, do I love internet logic.

My 2003 Look 386 and 2006 Trek Madone 5.2 are fine, but I cracked the frame of my 2011 Felt Z5 using a slide hammer in an attempt to remove a seatpost. I may patch the frame one day.

The only person I knew who flipped a Corvair was drunk at the time. Makes sense to me.

And people riding and crashing carbon frames when they're drunk shortens the life of those carbon frames.

Yeah, hope she got charged for criminal negligence for this. Putting lives of others at risk for a damn cheeseburger while you're driving, that's not cool Karen!

I worry about the cannondale carbon slice front fork on my 2001 R1000 - the frame is aluminum. but the fork is 22 years old. But looks in decent condition? Hard to tell.

Ditto for me. I have a black R1000. In fact, I even hit a car with it. He right turned in front of me right after passing. I looked it over. The local bike shop did as well. I have ridden it a bunch afterwards. I guess time will tell, although, I tend to keep it as a wall hanger more than a daily rider. The one shifter can be temperamental at times and it's hard to find any good parts.

I'll never forget the sight of it bouncing through the parking lot as I flew over the hood of that car.

I don't. Using the brakes means I'm slowing down. Going slower won't help me win all the Stava segments.

in a vacuum indefinitely but it depends on the environment, use, and any impacts. Things like UV, heat, and impact probably are the biggest factors in keeping a carbon bike 100%.

I'm not really worried about "failure", but around 60k miles my carbon bikes started to feel worn out.

Edit: I should add that my chainring sawed the chainstay in half on my first Venge, and I'm on the SL2's 3rd fork

That was a caused by a catastrophic crank failure on the first Venge at around 5K miles, not by gradual abrasion. The second (re)Venge is still intact (although missing some components at the moment)

Yikes! Hope you're OK. Was it a crank arm that broke off?

No, the bolt broke that holds the two sides of an S-Works (i.e. Lightning) crank together.
