This may be my favorite feature on my bike. Yes, I can stop, unclip, punch in my garage code to open the door, circle back around and ride between the cars to my bike shop. I could stop at the door, take out my phone and open the garage with the app. But it is sooo nice rolling into the driveway, pressing a tiny button on my bar-end, and just coasting right in.

The DoorMate is from 12 Speed Products. It's about the size of a chapstick and weighs nothing. It captures the garage code just like the HomeLink in your car. Literally took a min. to program and 30 seconds to "install". Installation means removing the bar end plug and replacing with the opener. Really.

thats cool. I have a cheap one that I waterproofed with some electrical sealant and stuck it on my frame. this one is cleaner for sure. but I bet costs far more too.

I looked it up. I wonder if it would work for my commercial door? I think the frequencies are different.

Neat. However my bike is stored in a spare room inside the house. But maybe some other enterprising sole can come up with one that would open the electronic door locks that many are now putting on their homes that can be opened via a phone app.

Many garage doors installed after 1993 allow you to add an opener. Often they have a learn button that is color coded. I can add an opener that works with a "purple learn button" on the garage door mechanism on mine. A couple years ago I bought two of these.

Does not install in a handlebar end, but one of them hangs on a D ring on my handlebar bag.

But these ones have a button that is too easy to accidently push when it is in my pocket, twice now I have accidently opened my garage door when I was inside my home and not realized that it had opened and it remained open overnight. Fortunately, no theft occurred.

These cheap ones, you have to be pretty close to the door for it to work, roughly 50 feet. My other openers work over 100 feet away.

Look at your garage door mechanism to see if it has a learn button, and if so does it have a color code?

I usually dismount, turn off the lights, and by that time the door is open. Since I only have one remote that I transfer between the Suby, Tahoe, and Kona Sutra, but that's a nice convenience unless your bike is stolen and you have your address somewhere on the bike.

i like it, & maybe it could become even less in size with longer life if it went with a rechargeable battery... If it were shrunk down enough, it could even be put in the modern steerer tube. A bunch of possibilities could be had.

That is cool, no doubt. I'm getting ready to replace the handlebars on my bike. Whisky recalled them (carbon bars) and I'm getting a new set (alloy.) One question, though. The website states the battery is good for about a year, then has to be replaced. Is there some way to remove and replace the battery without having to unwrap the bars to remove the Doormate? And, are the adhesive holding parts available seperately, since the adhesive propbably is a one time application thing?

I didn't use adhesive and didn't unwrap the bar - it's literally just pushed in the bar end in place of the usual plug. I've checked it a few times - it hasn't moved. The thing is so light, I don't expect it vibrate/wiggle loose.

We've gotten, over the years, to where we have a "smart" (AKA "cussed") home. Had a three-banger z-wave relay wired up to the garage doors, but a few WiFi upgrades back it wouldn't work unless we dumbed everything down. Replaced it with a rPi and a three-banger relay HAT, and wired that up to the garage switches. It's running a modest web server with a dab of PHP to actuate the doors. So I just ask Siri "toggle xxxx garage", and that door opens if closed, closes if open. rPi+HAT about $20. Already had an Apple Watch. YMMV. But use that setup all the time, not just for cycling.

why mine all unlock and lights and heat turn on when I arrive home. same when I leave all does it in reverse no need for a button.

I've been thinking about changing the locks on the exterior doors of the house. And electronic locks are included, but I've never paid attention to them or yet looked up how they work.

So you are saying that when you get close enough, presumably with your phone, they unlock automatically for you? That would be real convenient if they did. Then I wouldn't have to fumble for the key in the bag under my saddle when I leave and come home.

Yes homekit has it built in on my iphone. its not perfect but it works. I had a different setup that I found really reliable but it started having issues with the hub. you can also use siri to unlock and lock them. I replaced the whole lock but I think I would go this way next time. but the cost really adds up. having a keypad is hardy too instead of a key.

I have two bikes I regularly ride "out of the garage" - as opposed to the gravel and mtn bikes that get carted to the trailhead. I suspect I'll buy another. Or, I'll keep just this one 'til the updated model comes out, then move the old one to another bike... and so on.

Not to me, I do not have a Siri listening to my every move.

When I walk into my garage through my kitchen door, I can push a button on the wall that magically opens the door. And as I noted in a previous post, I have a wireless opener hanging from my handlebar bag for when I want to open the door from the outside.

Better check the manual for your garage door opener. A lot of them will only accept X number of remotes in programming mode.
