bottom bracket

Can someone tell me what this plastic part with the arrow and "+" sign is for on this bottom bracket?

Looks like an eccentric bottom bracket, would be for adjusting chain tension

Yes, it is an eccentric - but I'm not sure what that plastic part is for. Do you happen to know who makes it? I'd like to find a spec sheet or other written information about it.

edit: too bad about comment below. the bike is a tandem and it is an eccentric, of course.

As long as the bearing preload is correct and if dependent on the adjuster and if the adjuster doesn't move about all is fine. Somehow I doubt all these aspects are in agreement if the preload ring isn't contacting anything WRT the bearings. Andy

You'll likely have some lateral play in the crank. Watch the video above to properly adjust it.

Thanks for this video; I've never worked with this before. Been assembling my new tandem all day so this was reassuring and I will adjust as video says.
