Colonial Pipeline issues. The toilet paper crisis has now become gasoline......but that’s about the only thing the two have in common????
I got lots of comments about “I guess you don’t have to worry about gas” and “I bet you don’t worry about your miles per gallon”. My favorite was from a motorcyclist. I was beside him at a red light. I asked him if he wanted to swap bikes. He said he’d let me know in 20 miles. He was looking for gas!!

Not a problem in Central Indiana. Filled up our Mazda3 yesterday at local Kroger. Don't drive it much but was down to about 50 miles range. Station normally busy.

Between my feet, bike, and our Outlander PHEV, we won't need to buy gas until I drive up to Seattle on June 5th for a brevet. Aside from that trip, I would go without buying gas for probably two months. Amtrak and the airport are easily reachable, for that matter.
We're not talking apocalyptic here, we're talking a few days of supply issues with some ripples and price impacts.

I think it's over now. Stations were dry here in TN yesterday morning. We had an errand down in AL, they didn't seem to have any issues there. By the time we got back to TN the stations here had gas again. FWIW, 65+ mpg in the Prius @ 70 mph on the Interstate. 70 mpg on back roads.

In my teens helping my Dad work on the car, the cute girl from across the street came over to borrow a cup of gas. Her boyfriend was working on his car. She brought a styrofoam cup which I filled. Of course I chatted with her for a couple of minutes. Surprised both of us when the cup dissolved. She came over a few minutes later with a tin cup.

We never saw any effect from the Colonial pipeline problem here in Southern California. Gasoline has been, and is still available, anywhere from $3.80 - $4.40/gallon (which is normal) depending on brand and octane rating.
Those cheapie free plastic grocery bags have been banned in California so you can't use those to store your extra gasoline (stores do have ten-cent plastic bags for sale).

Right when this first happened we had our (traveling) techs go fill up and fill a gas can. Most of them drive hybrid Prius, so a can is almost a fill up and good for a while. We are able to work from home, so we have been all last week. As of yesterday there were not any stations nearby that had fuel. Our son has been staying with a friend who is much closer to work because he couldn't find any. Gas prices went well in excess of $3.

When you fill up once every month or two, you totally lose track of gas prices. The challenge is when someone says something like "I spent $3.56 per gallon last weekend," and you have to fake amazement without any idea whether the price was low or high. Fortunately, "Wow -- that is astounding!" seems to always work well.

No issue in Hawaii, though folks here are quick to panic buy anything based on "coconut wireless" stories. Price at the cheapest has gone from about $2.70 last year after Covid to $3.45 today.
On storage, these modern plastic gas cans seem ingeniously designed to make it impossible to get gas out of them. I find it best just to remove the crappy plastic nozzle with some sort of green safety trigger in it and pour directly in. Helps to have a funnel of course.

I have not needed to fill up, but as of yesterday (5/14) most (not all) stations in south central NC did not have gas. The price for gas that you could not buy was in the $2.80 to $3.00 range.

My Forester will turn 5 in early July. Almost up to 12,200 miles on the old girl. Gas availability is not on my radar screen because of this event.
