high mileage bikes

Recently hit 50,000 miles on my 2002 Fuji Marseilles. Still has original bottom bracket and chainrings. On second wheelset and cassette which will be replaced sometime in the near future.Couldn't even guess how many chains and tires it's been through. Bought this bike online and it has never been to a bike shop for repair.

Never knew Fuji had an 853 road bike in its lineup. Very cool. The late 90s and early 00s was quite the time for brands to have 853 road frames.

As for my bikes- I have no idea what sort of miles are on each of them as my GPS unit moves between bikes so my total miles are mixed between many bikes. Its cool that you have kept the same bike this whole time- stick to what works is an ideal approach that is sometimes difficult to follow.

Full 9 speed Ultegra?

Good to know that the BB & chainrings have that kind of durability. Got those on my CDale.

You must have been diligent on keeping the chain fresh.

The whole bike looks to be in great shape. Well done.

I did have to replace the right shifter last year. The only 9 speed Ultegra shifter that I could find was used one on Ebay.
Chain gets wiped down and oiled every 100 miles or so. I just use a generic dripless oil from the auto parts store. I use a chain checker to determine when to replace the chain.

Kudos. I have about 60k miles on my Habanero. My BB crapped out at 50K, you might want to at least check yours for any resistance.

Nice! I simi-retired my 2012 Colnago Ace at just over 52,000 miles. It's now my backup bike. My CRS has 27,500 on it. I replaced both the bottom brackets on my bikes when purchased. The Ace has a Hawk Racing BB and the CRS has a Wheels Mfg w/Enduro ceramic BB on it. And since I'm a big fan of preventive maintenance, I replace other parts (chainrings and cassettes) on a yearly basis or when needed.

OK, nowhere near 50,000 but I did put over 10,000 miles on my early '90s Schwinn Mirada Sport before it was stolen. Lived in the city for many years and it was my commuter/grocery getter/errand runner/recreational rider. Abused the hell out of it, did the bare minimum of maintenance and it just kept goin'...

I've ridden my 1997 Litespeed 37,000 miles since resuming bike computer use in 2010, and have no clue how many I put on it in the 13 years before that since my Purple Avocet 45 died.

Don't know if it qualifies as "high mileage," but I put over 40k miles on this one before relegating it to backup status a few years ago. Still a nice ride, though.

'Course, the only original parts are the frame, fork, stem and handlebar, and brake calipers.

Thats a crazy amount of mileage. How long did it take?

What else is original? Curious how the hubs look like inside.

Can you summarize a quick maintenence list?

The wheelset was replaced at about 10,000 miles. The current Dura Ace hubs have been serviced once.

Both derailleurs are original. If I get caught in the rain they get a couple of drops of Triflow. Seat post is removed and bike is inverted after riding in rain.

I wipe and oil the chain every 100 miles or so. I never remove the chain for cleaning. I pull the fork about every 10,000 miles for a visual inspection. The headset is also original. Cables are replaced as needed.

Cleaning is done with a spray bottle of soap water and damp cloth. The bike is never sprayed with a garden hose.

My bikes are always transported in a min van, never exposed to the elements on an exterior bike rack.

Two of my six vintage bikes (from 1975 and 1980) have their original cup & cone bottom brackets. Another bike from '72 still has its mid-'70s upgraded bb and chainrings.

My 15-year old DA hubs are the best I've got - with routine maintenance (fresh bearings and grease) they'll last just about forever, and they spin for days on end.

Got about that many miles on my Nashbar, but I can't really say that it's the same bike. Only the frame, fork and headset remain from my original build.
