Your yellow Nishiki Trackbike

curbtender hi , I am a Nishiki collector far away in Europe.
I just saw your yellow Nishiki track bike at the first time here on the forums.
Perfect beautiful track bike, I'm really jealous :-).
Is there more info about the bike?
-year of manufacture.
-Number of frames produced.
- built in Kobe/Japan or other location?
- Miscellaneous about the bike.

thanks for information

Welcome to the forums. I don't think I have a track bike posted here. Maybe a Tri-A? You can hit "quote" when replying and it will post the thread for reference.

yellow Nishiki Trackbike

Hello @landster.
I saw here in the forum Classic & Vintage two Pictures of your yellow Nishiki track bike.
There was no further information or data about this bike by the photos.
Therefore my request to you.
- is this frame a single piece or did Nishiki offer other models as track bikes?
- what year of manufacture is it?
- was the frame sold directly and only in Japan or was it also sold in the USA or worldwide?

Thanks for more information.

hi dbalu
Your Competition Frame is almost a twin of mine.
My Competition frame code is EF500105. Guess both were produced on the same day in Kobe . the german dealer ROSE sticker indicates that the frame has been custom fitted to the buyer 's wishes .
That was ROSE's specialty. I bought my first Competition from ROSE in 1982 and had it built according to my suggestions.

my Nishiki Olympic 1978

Please allow me to introduce my Nishiki Olympic.
The frame was built in Kobe/Japan in 1978 for the European market.
I bought this beautiful Nishiki bike in 2020 from a Dutchman.

Everything else about the Olympic can be found in the pictures.

That's a beautiful bicycle. In Canada and the USA, the Olympic was an upper entry level model. Our equivalent, top of the line Nishiki bicycle during this era was the Superbe, named after SunTour Superbe deralleurs it used. The frames are the same, except for the seat tube decals and amount of chrome plating, which is easily explained as importer/market preference, along with the difference in component selection. Shimano, established a presence in Europe as soon as they had developed their professional level Dura-Ace components by opening the European headquarters in the Nethrelands in June 1972 and supplying the Belgian based Flandria team in 1973. Thank-you for posting.

Edit: Everything looks era correct, with the exception of the saddle, pedals and the expected consumables.

yes, exactly . I know the Flandria story with Freddy Maertens and the cooperation with Shimano in the early 1970s professional team.
I have one of those 1973-74 Flandria bikes named-labeled as Freddy Maertens.
I bought it in Belgium a few years ago as "scrap" and gradually rebuilt it with some old Japanese parts. It,s a nice Bike with Ishiwata Tubes.

That looks like the Danish system. If so, it represents either 1976, 1997 or 2018.

Can you guys help me with this serial # from my old Nishiki Colorado? My mind is shot from working all day, and I've been curious since I built the bike up from the frame/fork about 20 years ago. Thanks.

Hi! I'd like some help in distinguishing what year my bike was made and it's model specific from the Mountain Series indicated on the bottom tube. Its serial number F2A01410 doesn't seem to reflect the ones detailed at the top of this thread.

Thanks in advance for any input!

It should be a 1989 model. For confirmation, please post an overall, drive side photo of the bicycle.

Welcome to the forum. Your frame was manufactured during January of a year ending in a 2. It could be 1992, 2002, etc. To determine which decade and the model, we'll need more information (brands and models of components) and preferably a good overall, drive side photo. Ignore the forum warning about requiring 10 posts before you can add photos. They will upload to gallery album under your forum ID, where myself and other members can view them.

Thanks for the welcome, the input, and the tip on the photos!

I've uploaded photos of the bike in the gallery under my profile like you said. I don't know much about the components the previous owner put on it, if they're stock or not. The Tange fork it has I believe isn't but I'm welcome to be corrected. Let me know if you need additional photos of it, thanks!

Yes, that's definitely a 1989 model. I don't recall the exact position in the line-up but it was a lower mid-range model and had an MSRP of about $450 US. Yours appears to have been almost totally rebuilt. The original components were a mix of Shimano Exage Mountain LX and Exage Mountain. The tubeset is Tange MTB.

Thank-you for the photos. Based on the frame characteristics it is a 1992 model. The components appear to be Shimano 300LX, which are consistent with the era, so they are likely original to the bicycle. There were no 300LX equipped Nishiki models in 1992, at least not in the USA. However, I notice that you are located in the Philippines. Model specs and names often vary between markets, which complicates identification.

From a component perspective, the closest USA models are the Colorado, which used 500LX components that were 2 groups higher than 300LX, and the Backroads, which used the 200GS components that were one group below 300LX. The frame style itself resembles the Manitoba model, which was one step below the Backroads.

The only USA market Nishiki with a suspension fork in 1992 was the top of the line Alien SP. It was rare to have suspension forks at this level in 1992, so I strongly suspect that they were added by the previous owner.

Regrettably, the only thing that I can tell you for sure, is that it is a 1992 model. Based on the frame and components, I'd classify it as upper entry level. With the OEM rigid fork, it would have had a retail price of around $375-$400 USA, had it been available in the USA market. Selective photo assist...

T-Mar, thanks. I built the bike up myself after purchasing it as a frameset about 20+ years ago on eBay. Each year I feel like I do something new to it. This year it was due for the new Schwalbes, and I converted the drivetrain to 1x Microshift Advent X and a Wolf Tooth chainring.
