Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nice bike but the ENVE and Specialized names are just too loud and detract from the overall look.

Another view...
I think black stem and keeping the tape is the way to go.

Fair enough. Would you have gone black on the headset to match the 105 or tried to go silver on everything? Thanks for the feedback!

That's a hard call. I think the black fork and components really complicates the build. The bike also has a lot of silver nuts/bolts exposed as is. So some are red and some are silver. You might see some black as well. Maybe a headset like the black/silver combos that Shimano used to have. It depends on whether you want that particular part to be seen or invisible.

I'm going through the same problem with this frame. I committed to black brakes/brifters/hubs because it originally came(for that year of production only) with cool dark bronze brake/hubs/rims/chainrings. I'm trying to keep the original appearance with modern components. I have headsets/stems/seatposts/derailleurs/cables/etc in both black and silver. I've mocked it up in many different ways and can't decide. It might end up with a black RD and a silver FD. I can't commit to a black crankset/RD because when they get a few scratches/wear marks they look crappy. When it's done, it'll have brifters/indexed derailleurs. All these decisions are killing me!

It will be the companion to this one which is a year older and mostly original. Similar color but different fork. I don't think black would work with this fork. It does look good with the black wheelset.

The brown saddle and tape though...10x better if all black.

More importantly, how do you like the ride?

I’d say that’s a good problem! Personally, I would black it all out, protect the black crankset with helicopter tape, and get some nice black Supacatz bar tape with a complimenting color. Whatever you do is going to look fantastic!

My COVID build brevet bike. The ultimate goal for this bike is PBP 2023. HOT was not a consideration, but I'm pleased with the aesthetics. Just a couple things I'd change.

Still tweaking fit.

So much black these days.

France in 2023

Admittedly the name was a draw.

Fenders are functional, as is the buddy flap. But they don't have to be ugly afterthoughts.

Lighting is part of the build.

Today's ride confirmed that I need to go longer and wider with my stem and bars. The current setup is close, but it's not quite right. A new integrated bar/stem has been ordered...in black.

Hot, especially for a fendered bike. It's so red! Red is always 🔥.

Yes... I think dark like the Panaracer GKs would be great, but I love my GP5000s... would the gum walls on the TdF GP5000s look really bad?

I may do the gummies when I upgrade to carbon wheel set.

Definitely consider all black for future bar tape change. As the motto goes “steel is real”... rides like a dream! 28mm+ tires sweeten the deal.

Although the chocolate color saddle and bar tape is nice, it is introducing a 4th color which makes things busy. If both were black, the red accents would really pop out. Now they are fighting with the other colors. Just my opinion on what is a very nice looking bike

+1

The brown saddle and tape would look great if the bike had all silver components, but those are scarce these days(if you want modern components),

My former wife use to say no more than three colors when combining... But again, cudos to the person who built this bike. It is very nice and worthy of all of our praise. Now if he (assuming it is a he) wants to make it smokin' hot, change to black bar tape and saddle and put some Campy Record on it.... just saying...

First off, its a flat bar. Have some pride and get a damn drop bar on there.
Secondly, 2" tires with tread?!?! This is the road hot or not- 32mm slicks or dont even try.
Third, yeah of course a different saddle is needed. You should have bought a Meld custom carbon saddle weeks ago. Not sure how easily one creates a Meld saddle around a diaper, but it needs to be done.
