Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Okay, I was trying to be humorous there, but I just looked on Ebay and I swear to god, MOST of the Litespeeds on there have >1" of spacers plus either a 0 degree stem or a riser stem. I saw one Vortex with a Litespeed Ti quill stem which was CLEARLY out beyond Max Height.

What gives?

Because they are old and expensive. If you cut the stem it limits who can use it thus limiting who you can sell it to.

Fulcrums arrived! As soon as I got home, I dragged the box down to the garage and got them installed. I did have to re-set the brake cables, since these rims are decidedly fatter than the old ones. Discovered that my valve stems are too short, so I had a hell of a time pumping up the tires, but I managed. Then, and ONLY then, did I remember that I have a pair of valve extenders, from the very first wheelset that came with the Ritchey 25 years ago - the rims were CXP30s.

SO, the wheels are mounted with tires and cassette, derailleur and brakes adjusted, AND... It's night time. NO ride tonight.

Grrrrrr.

I recently bought valve stem extenders and couldn’t get them to go on. After some research realized they were for tubeless. Does that make a difference?
