Wow, I'm seriously out of touch with current cycling technology. Happily, I might add.

(From this past weekend

"This $280 SRAM Red rear derailer is a throw-away" (sporting a badly worn cage pivot shaft! and a broken return spring, rider thought his cable had broken).

... not a typical topic of discussion on C&V, to be sure!....
Until I just googled it, I would have thought you were making that up!!!!

Uh, first hit was on a Sram unit called Eagle, those of us cycling in the late 1960's and early 1970's might be inclined to avoid any derailleur named Eagle.

Not to mention...

"There's still something about 19C tires."

Though a few 1980's C&V'ers may bring that up...

Comments like these are why I'm really happy Neal is on a Bicycle Advisory Committee board in his region. Electric bikes increase cycling's inclusivity.

You can buy several different brands of new freewheels and quill stems, but both are obsolete. I don't actually know what the term "obsolete" means, but I use it anyway when referring to quill stems and freewheels.

"Obsolete" is a term that bike shop staff use to signify that you ought to take your business elsewhere.

You haven't been in the 3-speed thread, have you?

There's a simple guide for this too: Utility bikes = Yes. Road bikes = No.

I'm partial to dual-leg center stands over kickstands.

I haven't spent time in the 3 speed thread but I 100% agree about appropriate application. I'm partial to dual leg rear wheel stands myself but I'm odd. Very odd...
