Here's a 610 I built up for my fiancee. The seller listed it only as a road bike and was asking for $250, the description didn't have the word Miyata at all, and the picture was terrible (but good enough for me to make out the brand and make a guess that it was a 610).

Of course, it turned out to be in rough shape. Scratched up paint, very dirty, light rust in spots. I was able to talk the seller down a little, but probably still paid a bit too much. My justification is that it's the NYC market and we'd been talking about getting into bike camping, and this bike is perfect.

I'm not convinced that those bars will work for a 45 mile ride up the Hudson Valley, but it's her bike and her call. Hope no one here considers swapping out the drops to be sacrilege!

thanks for the bump! I just purchased this 1989 63cm 1100a on ebay listed as brand new, built up for a show then that's it. cannot wait to get it, hopefully next week as it has to come from CA. Only paid $200 for it

I bought a 1981 Miyata 1000 from my best friend's dad for $20 when I was 16 (1997). He gave me a set of 700x35 knobbies with it and so began my long, and still going strong, affair with mixed-surface long distance riding and "bikepacking".

That bike got stolen, unfortunately. Some of my fondest cycling memories were on that bike. I'd love to replace it someday but I already have 4 bikes and don't really need another. And it would feel kinda weird replacing it. Like getting a new cat that looks exactly like the one that you loved dearly for years and then died. It wouldn't be quite right. So, while I'll likely not own another Miyata, I will always feel like part of the "cult".

My latest acquisition: '85 Three Ten I found in a thrift-store last week. Been so very long since I've seen anything in a thrift-store worth anything, I had to take it home. Haven't ridden it much yet but it sure is nicely built and not a scratch on her!



Has anyone else here seen this "mistake" before, or do I have a "one of a kind"?

Even the ultra-refined and perfected Japanese manufacturers could goof on occasion. I have Dia Compe brakes with the model name/number (NGC400) stamped or decaled twice on them.

I have been fixing up this 1990 Miyata 1000LT and I'm totally a cultist now. A very nicely built touring bike that I hope to get some touring use from. I can ride this for hours, except for the seat in the photo.. I'm think of putting a Brooks on it instead.

I ride a 1400a, which is very similar to yours, but is a 1990, and I really like the bike. Great rider, comfortable, light and a nimble handler. It has a full Shimano 105 group on her. What are your plans for wheels and gruppo?

And keep us updated on the build. I think that will deserve it's own thread!

I want mostly 600/Ultegra on it, but I want Zonda 10speed wheelset, with campy ergo's I love their shifting.
I will keep photo documentation and when it's done I'll do a thread for it, until then keep posted in here on it. Most of the parts are on their way. I have a 105 front brake because it's that darker grey like the front end of the bike, and it's waiting for a dark chrome headset and black stem which I'll probably get painted to match the frame. Then silver seatpost and white saddle on the back.

My 1979 Koga Miyata Gent's Racer-S. I love how comfortable it is on not too great roads, even compared to my supposedly more comfortable bikes. And added to this, it is zippy.

Just picked up this 1981(?) miyata pro. Came rolling on a pair of DuraAce AX hubbed tubulars with the OEM wheels in tow. Original bottle, original pump. Crazy retro computer.

Anyone know where I can find hoods for the AGC levers? It's a very nice ride, even if I look like a circus bear riding it. It's a 50cm frame and I'm about 6'.















Still unclear what I'll do with it, but the price was too good to pass up.

Great looking Pro! I've got an '81 and a 1/2. Looks nearly identical with a couple slight differences. Mine has Shimano 600 downtube shifters, non aero.

What stem and bar is that? Mine has Cinelli, which I've always assumed were a later addition (late 80's?).

Gotta tell you, those Dia Comp brake calipers look cool, but they are really weak. I had to switch mine out just for safety sake alone. I happened to have some Campy brakes. Then things snowballed and I put the rest of my Campy stuff on too.

Actually, now that I look a little closer, I think you've got an '82. I think starting in '82 the headtube has that two tone color scheme, not solid colored like the rest of the frame (blue in this case). As I recall the '81 has different parts on it too.

I think it's 82 as well. I found a catalog site and after a look, I don't think the 50mm size came around until 82 either. I'm a little confused because the catalog shows superbe pro components but I'm not seeing the "pro" designation on any of them.

It has a hidden clamp (sakae?) stem. Tough to get a good look at it with the computer and bottle cage, but here a pic I grabbed quick yesterday.

I think the Superbe Pro components around '80 to '82 are practically identical to the Superbe components except for a few smaller up grades, like different screws and bolts to make it lighter. So about the only way to tell is look at the small details.

I was confused by the on-line Miyata catalogs as well. Best I can tell many Miyatas came out with a mixed bag of parts, maybe whatever was available at the moment they were being put together. That's why I call mine an '81 and a half. I've got the typical 81 frame but with 82 components as described by the catalogs.

Cant tell anything about your stem, although it is not like my Cinelli. I'm pretty certain someone switched out some parts on my '81 Pro in the late 80's, including Specialized front wheel and the Cinelli stem and bar.

Your Pro looks great. That Superbe wheelset is worth its weight in gold. I would have bought the bike for the wheels alone if I had the chance. Love the ride of mine.
