February 2023 100+ Miles/km Thread

Matt usually kicks off each month for us, but I don't think he has been around since he let us know on January 20 about his eye surgery, so I'll start things.

Matt, if you are reading this, hope you are doing better.

What goals do folks have for February? I only managed 64 miles last year, but after a frigid start this coming weekend, the forecast for the next couple of weeks is actually fairly mild. I'm going to shoot for 150 miles, same as the January goal I slightly beat.

Indeed, I hope Matt is recovering well and will be back with us soon. As for me, despite what I was able to do last month, this month is shorter, and the first day I'll be able to ride will be Sunday, so I'm going to keep it at 250 again this month.

MTD: 0.0 miles
Monthly goal: 250 miles

I'm shooting for 275kms this month, from 221 last year, and hoping to drop 8-10lbs.

Watching the good folks here rack up some miles while I’m driving around England and Scotland. I saw a couple of cyclist today riding just north of the Lake District in the rain at 45 degrees. And the section of toad they were on was…unwelcoming to say the least. It really made me miss riding.

My eye seems to be doing okay, just have very blurry vision in it for what sounds like another 2 or more months. I can see fine to drive during the day but not at night.

Best wishes, Matt. Managed to ride tonight before the sub-zero weather kicks in. But should only be frigid for a couple of days, hoping to get out again on Sunday.

30kms this week, 261 ytd
Unfortunately +1.8lbs this week instead of -x. So -10lbs ytd.
I had been skipping breakfast and it was going so well I thought I'd try to skip dinner as well. I felt like I had a lot of pep that it was worth trying.
After a few days though, I felt a little run down. And all the coffee and tea I'd been drinking made me feel a bit bloated.
I ate some pastries, rice, ice cream, ... Now I feel better but a little disappointed. Well, it's a long road still so I have hope.

2/6 - 67.2 mi.

MTD: 67.2 miles

Monthly goal: 250 miles

Aside from the stiff headwinds and the flat tire in Malibu, a nice ride up the coast today.

Feb goal is 420 miles. Tweaked my back in first week of Feb. currently at 102 miles, will need to push to get there. Extra day for leap year won’t hurt. Finished Jan at 422 miles.

73kms this week, 155 mtd, 386 ytd
-0.8lbs this week, -2lbs mtd, -9.2ytd

This week has been not so good. I went to the dentist on friday it turns out I have an infection and it might need some minor dental surgery. It's unfortunate because the weather today (saturday) was nice for a bike ride. I was hoping to get some some kms in to get in shape for longer rides in march and april. Dentist said I could get some exercise but google says maybe not. The other dentist who would be doing the procedure likes to check my blood pressure and she always scolds me when she sees the numbers. So I'm just going to see if the antibiotics my dentist prescribed works over the next few days first.

So I'm not likely to get as much mileage as I want next week, and my weight loss progress is a bit stalled as of last week. Anyway, I'll see how next week goes.

My Aethos' rear wheel caught a rock on Monday that managed to chip the teeniest little piece off the edge of the rim so that it won't hold air anymore. I could run it with a tube, but I've become so fond of tubeless, I just don't want to, so the rim is on its way back to Boyd to take advantage of their crash replacement program, wherein they'll build a new wheel with the old hub for a lot less than a new wheel would cost. Only downside is I won't be riding that bike for a while, so I'll be using the gravel bike, which has been patiently waiting for dry-enough dirt to ride on. I've had it a month and a half and it hasn't seen gravel, or dirt, yet. Maybe tomorrow.
