When you go into your LBS for tubular glue and leather toe straps and are informed they no longer keep either in stock.

Worse yet - they don’t know what you’re talking about.

Or when they ask you what your tire savers are and if they're just a noise maker because they've never seen any before.

The car industry keeps moving model names forward (Corvette, Mustang are probably among the longest lived in continual production without being ever put on hiatus ---) And also recycles model names - Bronco is the one that comes immediately to mind as a model that was gone for a while but they brought back

So i dont think Allez is recycled , but has been more or less in continual production for a while in different configurations

The Sequoia, on the other hand, has had at least 3 different discontinuous incarnations from Specialized. I believe the Expedition has, as well.

Chevrolet Suburban is the oldest in continuous production. First year was 1936, or very close to that.

Ford has used "Model T" internally and externally since at least 1908 and I believe still does, they use(d) it in foreign markets, research projects, pre and post production and other circumstances.

After the original one, the "T" was followed by a number of which there are many.

You go into a local bike shop and they tell you nobody uses loose ball bearings these days.
Went to the older local bike shop and they had some some Weldtite ball bearings left in a pot.

Turns out Weldtite are "Grade 1000 Performance" - no really it says that on Amazon.
Now replaced with grade 25

... when you're champing at the bit to tell the dude down the street that his non-aero lever brake cables are waaay too tall. But you refrain, because you also want to be "nice." Then later, you just can't help yourself, and you ask the guy, cynically, "do you need to borrow my cable cutters? 'Cause I have some cable cutters you can borrow."

When you walk into the LBS and ask for the oldschool, classic, vintage guy and a 30 something appears, tells you "we don't work on much of that anymore, too hard to get parts for, tools are worn and modern upgrades are cheaper, easier to work on, last longer and work better".

The road to H**L, threadless, cartridge, disposable, throwaway, profit at all costs, crap, at least its easy to work on, wouldn't have to want to figure or carry out any difficult tasks.

..When 90% of the bike shops have never heard of the bits or even brand names you're looking for (was shopping for CS 50 cable stops, not a jockey pulley for a Vittoria Margherita for cryin out loud!)

......when you visit the LBS and there's and old rusty, beat, taco'd mtn bike in the abandoned/donated spot, against the back wall. So you ask the owner and he rolls his eyes and says "sure, take it" cuz you're the only one who ever does, and you do cuz those are Dia Compe 981 canti brakes.

....and, oooo, a Sugino GP130 triple. .....and a Tange HS and BB.

I resemble this comment. The lead mechanic at my local LBS texted me the other day pics of a Follis with Simplex bar end shifters, asking if I had ever seen these. I hadn't, only in pictures online. Turns out our own ollo_ollo (Don) had donated the bike. So of course I had to go down and take a look at it. Too small for me, and not in the market for such a bike, but pretty cool, nonetheless.

What I'm hung up on is the OP's use of "C+V" in the thread title when everyone knows it is "C&V".

C+V implies something is both classic and vintage, whereas C&V implies that a space which includes either C or V or both (C+V).

Furthermore, the number of people who are only "C+Ver" is vanishingly small. It is much more inclusive to target the set of people who are "C&Ver".

I'm willing to go down fighting over this one. ;-)

P.S. - That's all I've got for you today. I know,... it was weak.

After doing a century and going to the local drug store looking for Gargling Oil liniment and the pharmacist grabs you by your Cynar wool jersey shows you and your 'High Boy" the door.
That's How.

When you are puzzled when drones pop up when you do a search for "Mavic" Components and rims......
When you expected the young salesperson at the bike shop to know what tubular tires are......
When you noticed Phil Wood changed the look of their Tenacious oil bottle......
When you never can get used to the idea of using any saddle other than Turbos or Concors.......
When your stomach turns at the sight of Unicrowns, Compact frames, ergo bars, SMP saddles and non, quill, face plated stems....

When you spend a good 30 minutes trying to haggle with the seller of an old, rusted out, $60 Nishiki...

But, on the way home, you don't bat an eye when you spend $140 at the store on groceries for the week.
