Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For years my mother made date bars at Christmas, along with other cookies, but the date bars were the best. Each one was dusted with powdered sugar and individually wrapped so they stayed moist.

I just swapped out the old Centaur seatpost I put on the Circuit (because it needed a 27.2 post longer than the SR that came with it) for an extra-long SR, so I could use the Centaur with the Campy-equipped Litespeed when it eventually arrived.

And now I am ITCHING to ride the Circuit. Like, I want to ride it so bad it almost hurts. But it's raining, and it's already 4 PM. I guess that's good - if you collect a bunch of bikes, you SHOULD want to ride each and every one of them. There should be something about each one that keeps you coming back to it. If not, why keep it?

My sister used to make something like that. I could eat a whole pan of them.

Oops. wonder when I last replaced my chain It turns out that the chain has been on there since some time in 2019 so I get a new chain out of storage and install it on my Propel. New chain and new cassette - good to go. A quick test and there is a rumble in bottom half of the gears that I can feel through the pedals. I check the crank (16,000 miles) and sure enough, the teeth are shot on both the big and small rings. Back to inventory and find some used but decent looking rings and install them. Now, it's time to ride, 2 hours later and a couple sc***** knuckles.
Our trainer bike chains seem to wear very slowly and stay quite clean.

Mid-flight my daughter became ill (not COVID), so we found a Urgent Care place close to the airport. Turns out the doctor she saw was from our little DFW burb. Small world.

A couple days ago I was blowing leaves on a steep bank and my feet slid out. I landed on my bottom.

Now I have a bruised buttock. Sigh.

It's not easy being Velo Vol
