Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We started in the low 20's and ended in the low 40's. Holy cow, what an improvement over the previous years, what with 70 mile gusts last year, and single digits the year before. It was a great ride.

That almost happened. Getting blown of the bike wasn't as fun. The problem was we were halfway along on the bad part, so going forward was the best option.

I opted to do the coastal ride today. Beautiful day and a fun ride. I stole a couple pictures from one of the ladies.

First real miles of 2021 for me, too. Only 33 of them, but once again, REAL Miles >>> Virtual Miles. I was initially surprised by the number of cyclists there were on the road today, what with it being in the 50s, and this being NorCal and all. And it didn't look like many were novices. There was that couple in matching salmon colored jerseys who appeared to be wearing new kit and riding new bikes. Maybe Santa was good to them. Ended up being a Zone 1-2 ride, which I didn't mind.

Also, it appears to be holding the burger just by the upper bun, which makes one wonder how it's all holding together.

When you grow up swimming on the lower eastern Seaboard, then hop in the Pacific at Santa Monica singing Beach Boys songs to yourself, you wonder how the Pacific isn't frozen.

There is a Church's near here. I thought it was too greasy. The best fried chicken used to be at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Hollywood. Outstanding! They had smothered mashed potatoes and collard greens and excellent corn bread. I heard it went downhill after it got crazy busy.

Our lakes haven't frozen yet. Sad.

Best fried chicken I ever had was my Grandmother's. Simple, too - nothing but chicken pieces, flour with salt and pepper, and Crisco. No buttermilk, no fancy seasoning mix, no double-dip breading. Just a little old lady, two pans, one lid, and a pot fork.
