Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For those of you that wear glasses. Do you wear them when you ride? Are you worried about them falling off?
Now that I have them, It’s amazing how much detail I can see I never want to take them off.

I wear them while I ride. I can't see well enough without them. This last pair has the automatic shading. I can't remember what that's called. But something like cocoons will protect them from stones and debris. The cocoons though, can block the airflow into the helmet.
Sometimes I wear flip up shades for the same function. They don't block the airflow.

I have pretty bad presbyopia and significant astigmatism, which requires progressive lenses. They don’t work well on the bike and i end up looking over my glasses when I’m in the drops, which I am a lot. Therefore, I wear crummy old Oakley military ballistic glasses with planar lenses on the bike and carry a pair of drugstore readers if I think I’m going to have to read maps on my phone. Also, my prescription sunglasses cost about 800 a pop and I don’t want to ruin them in a crash or something.

Yes. No. I also have cycling-specific specs.

Long afternoon on the lawn. I had to pick up all the debris that the cyclone left last week. I did more back stretching today than DougRNS does in a month. At least I didn't have snot hanging off my nose today.

Lots of robins hopping around on the lawn when I mow. I think they like me.

I don't wear them while riding because I see well enough without glasses that the State of California doesn't require me to wear them. Way back when, I had some glasses with prescription inserts, but honestly, they were a pain.

BUT, I don't have your eyes, so I don't have your vision. I don't know what your deficiencies are. Mine's astigmatism. Without glasses, everything looks taller and thinner than it really is. When my wife heard that, she asked the eye doctor, "Does he REALLY have to get glasses?"

Mine mostly stay on no problem, but I've had a couple that would be prone to sliding down when all sweaty and slathered in sunscreen. Sometimes I wear Croakies-type dealios when MTBing with glasses that don't like to stay on all the time.

Same. Sunglasses with a variety of changeable non-script lenses.

yes. no. I'm short sighted with astigmatism with a big discrepancy between eyes (-1.75 v -5.2) I can't see far and have bugger all depth perception without glasses. I'm frugal about my glasses. I buy the cheapest pair I can. I have an older spare pair if I kill/lose my main pair. I have inserts for cycling glasses. They are a pain as they get covered in sweat easily.

Hoo boy. YouTube wanted me to watch this. A good chunk of the non-interstate roadage that this maniac speeds through are roads I ride on.

Spoiler alert: It doesn't show him being caught.

I have glasses for riding, so I don't schmootz up my daily wear glasses with sweat. I have some sun glasses with my script that are perma dark. And 2 pairs of Nike sports glasses with transition lenses with my bifocal no line script. They're pretty nice

Because I've had cataract surgery, I can see fine without glasses, even my bike computer if I keep the digits a decent size. Still, I buy bifocal safety glasses at $10-$12 a pair. I own several pair in different shades.

I hate glasses. They bother the tops of my ears. I have tried a pince-nez which solves the problem but looks uber-dorky and they are not secure enough to wear on a bike anyway.

I wear contact lenses most of the time.

For cycling, I really wanted to try those Lazer Magneto eyewear, which have little magnets so the arms of the glasses end at your temples, but they never really caught on and I never even got to try them.
