Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cazenovistan disposed of their last phone booth years ago.

From the archive: The Schwinn, about 3 versions ago.

Cabrio has a little back seat, so Benson can come along.

That Cayman is definitely hot, but if I was going for a Porsche I might like a 356. I drove one and it was a blast. Plus, I'd be less likely to do something stupid than if I was given 500 hp. I hear a nice one can be $200k, but I've seen a replica that looked great for $50k.

I've driven these, so it's a bit relatable.

No dogs allowed in the Porsche. I guess you'd need to get some ugly aftermarket aero package that has runningboard-like skirts though.

Oh yes; I didn't mean you in that. The Boxster gets a lot of crap from a lot of the True Faithful (and Top Gear), but it seems ideal for cruising around the backroads of CT or NY at legal-enough speeds. It's a shockingly hot take.

But yes, a 911 should be hardtop, of course. What are you going to do with a cabrio?

My cousin worked for a guy who had one when I had my shop and he left it with me for weeks and said I could drive it all I wanted. I took it through some of the local canyons with the top down at night. Fun stuff!

Oh, stop - you're just making excuses. You can keep the 6500 going for as long as you want and probably at little to no cost.

The big picture difference is $150 or so - you have jackets that were more expensive and they were on sale. But, let's say you were to move to R7000 - when would you realistically do so? This week? As a Christmas present to yourself? Next Spring? Whatever that timeframe is, is it worth $150 to have power between now and then? Personally, unless I had firm plans to swap groups before the end of the summer, I wouldn't waste the season thinking about it - I'd get the pedals and take the picket fence out of my ass.

I saw one in Atlantic City yesterday. In the train station. I occasionally see them in campgrounds and other places where there is no cell service. Glacier National Park is a good example.

Cool thread. I bought a Schwinn Tempo new in 1987. It had a 7 speed 105 group with Biopace. It was about $500.

Porsche hasn't made a real 911 since 1998.

Sometime around 1970/71, I remember seeing a road test of the Porsche 911S vs the Ferrari Dino 246 GT. I was still 3 years away from a drivers license, but I drooled.
