spraypainted frame
any ideas how to get rid of an ugly ass spraypaint job? a friend of mine just got a secondhand frame and wants to clean it down and spraypaint it one solid color (instead of the fake-camo paint job).

jasco paint stripper works great at removing any type of paint....nasty stuff but alot less work than sanding it down....the semi paste type runs about 8$ a can at a lowes/home depot type store

Be careful with that chemical stuff and get gloves too. I used it before without gloves thinking I could be careful with it. OW! it'll burn your hands bad. I wasted lots of time dashing to the sink for a wash.

you can get it media blasted for $20-30. Beats playing with chemicals and dealing with toxic waste.

When I repainted my Miele, I used Aircraft Stripper (available at your local Pep Boys or auto parts store). Follow the instructions on the can. I thought if I left it on overnight it would work that much better but it didn't do ****. I think it says to keep it on for 15 minutes or so. I followed that with some scraping off of the old paint/sludge. Washed the frame and then primed it and the painted it with Duplicolor Chevrolet Orange engine paint. Again, follow instructions on the can for best results. Not the best job but I was rushing to get it done so I could ride. I'm thinking of going with a different colour... perhaps a gunmetal or battleship grey. Or maybe use some of the flourescent Krylon paint I picked up during last Halloween.

jasco's probably your cheapest option (i paid 5 bucks and still have enough to do another frame), but getting it blasted would be a nicer process.

There is a drill attachment that looks like a giant brillo pad on a stick that you can use to remove paint. It is so much better than caustic chemicals. It will remove rust and paint....all at the same time. It took about 30 minutes to take the frame down to bare metal. think about it.
