Odd, yes, but not even WVA can hold off the full peloton over that distance, in that terrain. His time loss today gives him more freedom in his battle for green, which is his true goal.

I was disappointed to see the break not work out today - I was hoping for a situation where maybe Wout would settle for second since he really went into it and maybe Quinn would get the win? I could hope to see an American with a stage win!
What magical set of circumstances could see Powless in the break tomorrow finishing enough infront of Pog to wear the yellow jersey?

That was flat-out robbery! Pogi is at a different level than everyone else right now.

stage eight's finale looks to be another epic one. plenty of the classics guys will fancy their chances and the gc riders/climbers gotta represent.
if a decent-sized breakaway doesn't prevail, will be quite the battle in the last few km's.

Seems like a good break today -- Uran might complicate things but at least UAE are pacing. McNulty and Joe dombrowski in the mix.

wow…bungle in the jungel/bojangles…did not see that one coming. glad to see him get a huge win after years of nothing. fell off the map after establishing himself as a solid tt/climber/top ten gc guy before the wheels came off.

He had a major health issue that took quite a while to get diagnosed, and one or two back surgeries to finally correct the issue. He had to start from scratch when he recovered. I’d say today’s win was pretty epic!

Great job by jungles, too bad Pinot didn't go with but he closed over a minute on the climb. I had hoped to see castroviejo with an epic decent to catch on but he seemed to want to tow Verona with him. Pog sprinting for seconds with Jonas.

I'm starting to get annoyed at EF being denied yellow multiple times by Pog running his teammates into the ground.
Great try Uran!
Betiol you're dead to me.
Hoping Bardet gets a podium because tufts runs out of teammates.

Pogacar has this other-worldly affect. Listening to him in interviews, there's just something off.

It would be easy to say that Pogi has this wrapped up, but I have concerns that his significant efforts in the first week may leave him empty at the end. I hope I'm wrong, because I'm really enjoying him race his bike.
Pre-wash Rutledge (auto-generated You Tube captions are hilarious) may be able to get into the top 5 on GC when things start going seriously uphill, but his time loss on the cobbles pretty much sealed his fate. I expect him to be an animator, but in service of Jonas.
I love green jersey riders who are multi-dimensional like WVA, rather than just pure sprinters.
It would make me very happy to see Pidcock get a stage win.

Every bike racer needs to work on their sprinting the best of their ability. Your strongest skill might be climbing, but you can bet it will come down to a drag race in the final meters pretty frequently. Today's race was yet another example. Pogi has used his sprinting abilities to nibble away seconds from his GC rivals a few times, and almost got another 1 or 2 today.
Tomorrow...Expect fireworks and hand-to-hand combat.

Anyone on here know Bob Roll 1st or 2nd degree?
We need to get him on Strava. Every stage when they discuss the climbs, BR says "I rode that climb earlier this morning and it was tough." He's one of my favorite parts of watching cycling, the John Madden of cycling if you will. Would love to see how far and fast he's spinning at now.
BTW, if you haven't seen his old cycling pics you're missing out. Here's one of my favs with the 80s/90s hair (the Phil Collins cut):

I can't cheer for someone who can't pronounce his own name.
