Seems like from all the ads I am bombarded with, gravel riders wear red plaid, have perfectly groomed beards and probably cross-country ski with wool pants and suspenders.
What's the deal with this stereotype?

no beard, no red plaid, and I don't live anywhere near someplace that skiing would be an option. I enjoy a tangy kombucha now and then, though.

I grew one during this pandemic. Convinced my wife that I was not just laying around on the couch all day, but rather was working hard on my beard. It takes a lot of effort to push those whiskers out of my face.

I had a beard before it was cool. Kombucha is akin to toilet water the second before it gets flushed.

Yes to kombucha no to the beard. I'm still jealous of a co-op worker who cruises on a LHT with a camp stove on the DT, for coffee breaks.

I do have a beard but mostly because I am not a fan of shaving, however not perfectly groomed. As far as kombucha if my stomach is way off sometimes I will consider it but I really don't much care fo it. Plaid is not really for me. I would wear my clan tartan though but I don't really do it often because the ethics of wool and even if I had some old wool I can't wear it anyway.
People generally love stereotypes they make it easier for us to deal with the world. They are generally all wrong or maybe somewhat correct but still wrong ethically.
I have ads for rugs and crappy hub drive bikes and sometimes really ugly face masks. I don't know how they got to that.

I've never heard of Kombucha. Never had a beard either; much too sparse. I don't think beards run in the family.
The ponytail is down to my waist though so if I am riding my bike it has to be in a manbun, or at least an approximation of sorts. That's as hipster as I can get.

I couldn't grow a respectable beard if my life depended on it.
I do have 2 tattoos.
I drink a lemonade kombucha probably 4 times a year. Bitter, fizzy, different.
