Finally getting my shot!

After more than a decade of working 30 miles or
more away from home I finally have a job close enough that I can use my bike as practical transportation. And it’s a giant Nor’Easter all week.

For those of you who may not be from Bahsten, a Nor'Easter is a wikked bad stahm.

Do people from Bahsten pronounce either or both "r"s in Nor'Easter?

first one yes. Second one no.

You guys can’t let me have my one month of victory before using the “W” word? Thanks.

A long time ago I lived in Milton, worked close to Fenway Park and didn't own a car. For a year, I rode in every day, Mon-Fri. Came in a few minutes late on a snow day. One of very few to even show up! (Actually fun! 4" of virgin snow is a blast! Tires cut to the pavement. Dead quiet. Now coming home was another story! Snowed all day and the roads were deeply rutted.) A year later, now living in Cambridge but still no car I rode through water up nearly to my hubs near Storrow Drive. Now that was a naheastay. (Pronunciations change a little depending the proximity - in distance, family or just mindset - to Maine (formally a part of Massachusetts), New Hampshire, or Dorchester. Irish roots?)

And the biggie: the 1978 Blizzard. 24" of heavy New England snow distributed by 60 mph winds. Tuesday. Friday night I rode the short 2 miles home on a 1930s Raleigh DL-1 rod brake Roadster. Perfect for 10" of hard packed snow with potholes down the pavement! (I had Commonwealth Avenue to myself.) My first bike ride post head injury and, on that bike, a piece of cake.
