Wobbly Rear Wheel :(

So I am fairly new to road cycling and have an issue with my rear wheel. I had just replaced the tube in the rear tire and popped it back on the bike only to find that the back tire wobbles. The wobble occurs when you grab a hold of the rear tire and move it from side to side. There have been no adjustments made to the rear tire/rim. It does have a quick release, but I made sure that it was nice and snug a few times. What could the wobble be caused by? How much would it cost to get fixed? thanks for the help, I just want to ride!

SOunds like the cones are loose. Easy adjustment that shouldn't cost much. Depending on the age of the wheelset, may want to get the hub serviced instead of just adjusted.

Be sure the axle is fully seated in the dropouts. The skewer should be closed with the bike standing on the wheels.

I've taken the wheel off and put it back on a couple of times and made sure it is fully seated in the dropouts.

I agree with CACycling, it sounds as if the bearing cones need adjusting.

If you're lucky, the locknuts won't be completely loose and you can fix it without buying a cone wrench (which I'd advise anyway).

Just get a couple of shifters or whatever, and tighten the locknuts until the spindle has only a tiny rattle. This will disappear when the QR is tightened.

The above technique won't work though if your spindle is the type with a groove or flat along it and keyed washers. If you have this type you can actually do without a cone wrench altogether; just substitute painstaking fiddliness.
