Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn't want to do any of the rides the clubs were doing so I went solo. I wanted to do one of the hard rides I used to do before I became such a wuss. I chose a loop over the mountains into another valley and around the other end of the ridge and back for about 80 miles and 7500 feet. The climb up to 5400 feet wasn't bad, roads were very quiet and wind was at my back. I met another rider and I told him where I was going. He warned me "you gonna be a Popsicle on the downhill".

It was cold on the descent but not freezing but the wind was awful. It was blowing me around and the noise from my vest rattling was deafening. At the bottom it wasn't as bad but it was headwind for the rest of the ride, at least 30 miles. The last few hills were rough.

On yesterday’s ride I noticed that I was occasionally hearing a loud, unpleasant grinding sound, similar to starting a car which is already running. My friend informed me it’s his free hub that is in need of service. Not a soothing sound to hear on a ride.

Lol. Moving goalposts and a poor grasp of core statistical concepts ftw. I do like how you're arguing with the only regular to live and ride in NYC, in this millennia, about the specialness of NYC, though - 41ier goodness.

If you're so fond of Terry's vids, go watch some from other cities - they're great.

It's time to decorate the wife's bday cake that I baked last night and then start working on a big bday brunch. Hopefully I can squeeze out for a few miles before the rain moves in this afternoon.

The only other NYC rider I know of is UnfilteredDregs and he totally fell off the radar screen a few years ago. I hope he is ok. Any idea??

HRV and HR numbers are warning me to recover on the trainer today. I think I’ll listen this time after running myself into the ground a week ago.

I might have a shot at the podium this week. Especially if we exclude fake miles.

your definition of wuss and mine are different. I hope I can do what your doing when I'm your age. Hell, before my health issues I wasn't doing what you are doing.

Now I'm mad because I realize I'm a wuss. Thanks.

I have them on my main rider.

But yes, I see your point. Likely down graded stuff.
I also had a 7.2 volt Makita, back in the nineties. The armature never died, but it became untenable to keep buying batteries for it.

Yogurt put to bed. Check.
Dogs scritched. Check.
Time to ride. It's gonna be another scorcher.
Every day will be another scorcher, until October. Better settle into the new schedule.
Carry on

We're safe and sound in GVL.

Unfortunately I royally ****ed up and the apartment we signed up for is a total POS. Like, unbelievably bad.

I try to assume the best in people but right now I'm really

Now I have to find a new place to live and I'll probably have to fight to get some money back.
