Adaptive Cycling: Handcycles, Amputee Adaptation, Visual Impairment, and Other Needs Have a need for adaptive equipment to ride to compensate for a disability or loss of limb or function? This area is for discussion among those of us in the cycling world that are coming back from traumatic circumstances and tell the world, "No, you are not going to beat me down!"

Can I add a back-rest to a regular kids bike?

Can I add a back-rest to a regular kids bike?

Background: My 6 year old is autistic, non-verbal. I took him for a cycling lesson and whilst the bike was a nightmare he loved the trike he was using instead, a theraplay imp:

I think he liked that it has a seat with backrest and strap on it. My first plan was to buy one of the trikes but the price is incredible for something he'll grow out of.
He currently has a 16" Carrera Cosmos with stabilizers fitted:

Is there any way to replace the seat with a more supportive one? I'm assuming I'd need to set it quite far back and lower it since he won't be able to sit quite so upright.
