Since I live in the snow belt and hate cold weather riding, I go to the gym and ride the recumbent bike trainer in the winter. It makes a big difference when you start to ride again in the spring.

After not being active on BF since 2/19 I am sure he appreciates the quote.

I like to ride my bike.

I like to lift weights.

I win !!

Seriously tho .....I wear over ear headphones and tune out about everything when I am at the gym. I got really motivated after my car accident and if I wasn't on the bike I was at the gym. usually 22 or more exercise "sessions" a month. Now that its cold they will all be gym workouts. I hate the cold and I hate stationary bikes. I lost almost 20 pounds by cutting out beer and have visible abs for the first time on about 6 or 7 years. No mean feat at 51.

Also strong people are harder to kill so theres that !! LOL.

I've never been to a gym in Spain or England, but I've been to one in Oklahoma. I don't remember much about it, though.

Men in Spain only go to gyms to look at insane women.

I dumped my gym membership last year. Thought about buying a decent multi station machine for the house, and Covid pushed me over the edge.
Now, I don't have to put up with annoying people who can't seem to put weights back where they belong, and park their butts on the machines with the ear buds plugged in and oblivious to others that are waiting.
Should have pulled the trigger on that machine years ago.

I stopped lifting weights about 10 years ago when I got my heart diagnosis, and once I had my open heart surgery three years ago I figured I would probably never be back. I really miss it. My wife wanted to try once and I started up with her, but we couldn’t swing extra daycare all the time. I miss the challenge of leveling up, I miss having defined muscles.

15-20 years ago, I went to a gym that had a climbing club that had taken over a racketball court for a rock wall and I would do that on back day instead of curls and pull downs. That was great.

I only ever did cardio indoors when the weather forced me, though.

These days if I get two hours free from kids I’m 95% likely to spend it on a bike ride… maybe when they’re all big enough to pour their own cereal I’ll have more time

No, just wishful thinking on the 'ladies' part. Nothing but testosterone in abundance where I go.

I go to the gym in the middle of the day so I would expect only other retired people. But for the few people that are there, they do appear to be in the 20s and 30s.

Pure genius

All I do are planks, push-ups and core strength exercises. The push ups are for vanity but the other help support me on the bike.

I've never had a gym membership and never felt the need for one. I've ended up living in the same town as the university from which I graduated, and as an alumnus, I can use their gym facilities whenever they're not being used for classes or teams.

After heart failure in the summer I was told I had to enlist in cardiac rehab at the hospital. (And a health food class) The heart center has a pretty complete gym from what I can tell? Huge improvement in the time since I started until now. Long way to go yet. I suppose a lot has to do with the amount of pills they have me on. Day by day.

Those are all good. If I’m doing my indoor circuit thing, I also do some work with dumbbells (rows, curls, overhead raise, shrug, etc) and a bit of stepping on a Bosu “ball”, which seems better than a normal step. We also have an elliptical that sees a fair amount of use.
